they even got the achievement system to work toward the drama because the "congrats, you saved everybody" achievement doesn't pop up until about 30 seconds AFTER the Normandy gets away and you're sweating wondering if you accidentally got Garrus killed

Yes duh good job watching the game.

The first two games were each featured an intelligent reaper that communicated with the player. The last game turned them into remote controlled spaceships under the direction of the citadel AI. The citadel, that needed to be activated by he reapers.......

The tech, biotic, and leader choices are obvious, the escort, distraction, and who you take not so much.

Yeah I always figured this is why we never heard from Harbinger in ME3, it only ever acted through the collectors, and we took care of them.

yeah. and Soverign was a scout sent to monitor the galaxy prior to the invasion, which was also explained

i honestly wonder what people were missing anyway. out of all of Mass Effect 3's flaws did you really want a deep voiced villain yelling "ha ha ha you are going to lose" or some other imaginative line

ME3 can do strange things to a man, like make them think Harbringer was good when he actually was a pretty lame fuckboy who spends his part of the game doing a second rate Sovereign impression or impotently poo poo-talking you. Or more accurately attempting to impotently poo poo-talk you since he was often cut off mid sentence as you blew his hosts brains out every time he graced you with his presence.

I find the idea of him being some glaring omission from ME3 pretty funny. Revealing his origins as being the avatar of a bunch of space blowhards was apt.

The bit that I don't think is intuitive is that escorting the crew is a simply loyalty check, but holding the line has more gradations. So Mordin's fine at escorting the crew but (for some reason) sucks at holding the line.

Yeah but most video game endings are bad. This one just seems more bad because people invested themselves into mass effect to an unhealthy degree.

Correct choices: agent from the space racists that got her entire team killed, rent-a-cop from the space racists (that failed to save anyone even with Shepard's help), turian cop that got his entire team killed.
Incorrect choices: hardened mercenary (that got his entire team killed, admittedly), Krogan conditioned from birth for combat, thousand year-old asari warrior

Grunt is, well, a grunt and didn't have leadership education instilled in him and Samara is a justicar, so she always operated on her own.

Grunt may eventually lead Aralakh company, but you could make the argument that that's only after spending time first with Shepard and then with Wrex.

True.

However, the bios for the "correct" choices tell you that they are good leaders. You might not be shown this, but you are told. And if I had to guess whether the "correct" choice in a Bioware game is the one that the writers tell me is correct or the one that they show me is correct....

It's not all that surprising when you remember the context of when ME3 came out.

This can never work out. Either it won't be explained, with leaves fans bitching for getting no resolution. Or it will be explained, but since writers are simple humans the explanation will never fulfill the criteria of being beyond mortal comprehension. Which leaves to fans complaining about it.

So loyalty missions are completely optional, which means that your companions aren't integral to the main story. Which means that ... why didn't they make the one part that fleshes out your companions an integral part of the game?
If you don't do them do they just stand at their spot in the spaceship staring quietly at a wall?
Why did they do that? Were people complaining about having to do EXTRA missions?
