Well, here's a short page kinda condensing what actually goes on with Cuban democracy if you want.

It's a one party state but there's a lot more involved than you might think.

http://www.cuba-solidarity.org.uk/resources/democracyfactsheet2015.pdf

lol if you find this even slightly compelling.

quote:

Political parties are permitted in Cuba, however they are not allowed to nominate or campaign for candidates. This includes the Cuban Communist Party which is forbidden by law from interfering in the electoral process.

Oh, dang, well, if they're forbidden by law...I guess the Party's exclusive hold on power means that it has unanimous popular support, then.

There's a sidebar with bullet points about how swell their electoral system is, and then a single sentence in the text pointing out that elections for the provincial and national assemblies are "not competitive," i.e., there's only one name on the ballot.

The people get to influence policy through the mass organizations, though! Which I'm sure are organic and independent organizations that have yet to be co-opted by the ruling elites, even after six decades.

(What is it with this last argument? HE made the exact same one regarding the GDR. That's democracy to communists?)

syriza, tho that coalition is basically falling apart. the spanish and portugese socialist parties are making huge gains if i remember correctly. labour in UK is becoming an actual leftist party once again (tho probably won't be in power for some time).

Even by your standards this is stupid, because it demonstrates that you can't imagine anyone else's thinking. This may blow your mind, but some of us perceive the existence of a vibrant opposition to be a good and even necessary thing to prevent stagnation.

Of course, you haven't answered my question, but I saw in another thread that you explicitly stated that Cuba, the one party state with no free press, is a democracy. Cool, cool.
