How is the Linux DNS and the Windows DCs associated? Are the DCs even referencing the Linux DNS?

The 4.3 v6s in the new silverados are kinda neat. The power of the gen 3/4 5.3s in a smaller package. Alternately, I'd nab a 03-06 silverado. Cheap, plenty of aftermarket gubbins available, simple to work on, take a beating and you don't have to worry about tearing up a shiny new truck.

The DCs are forwarding unknown DNS requests to the Linux DNS. Anytime I add a server or need anything DNS-y changed or added (ANAME, etc) I have to submit a ticket to our network guy.

12:00 AM - 6:00 PM instead. gently caress. Forgot to change PM to AM (I previously had it set to 4:00 AM to 2:00 PM). So I missed the call from UPS at 7am asking if I was available as a helper today.

Managed to get ahold of them anyway thank gently caress, they said they need helpers bad today and that they'd have a driver in my area call me between 10:00-10:30 (once he was done with his hour-critical stuff). She said she sent a message to him with my contact info to the computer in his truck), and to call him (driver) if I didn't hear anything by 11:00. Called him at 11:15. Voicemail, left a message. Called again at 11:45. Voicemail, didn't bother with a VM this time.

Guess he doesn't want a helper very bad, despite the coordinator I talked to saying they were absolutely swamped thanks to Cyber Monday. Guess I'll be doing Uber Eats if I don't hear anything soon. I gotta get money in the bank ASAP.

She did say that I generally wouldn't be starting (at all) until 11am or so, as the drivers don't use helpers for mission-critical stuff (2 day and faster), only residential 3 day and ground stuff. They call around 7am to see if I'm available that day. Whereas during orientation I was told I would usually be picked up around 7-8am and would be called by 6am.

This weekend, I installed my Wheelskins to replace the lovely slip on cover I had (because the naked wheel is deteriorating):

I should have pulled tighter in a few spots, mostly around the seams. I'm going to see if the areas over the spokes flatten out y themselves, of not, double-sided tape will be involved.

I had to do this to protect my fingers:

Kept poking myself with the damned needle, and attempting to slice fingers off with the thread until I did that.

Then, feeling good about myself, and it being decent weather, fixed a problem with my driver's side power window being problematic to roll up.

Hmmm. Looks like a little heat and arcing there on the lower left. And a little arcing on the other contact, too.

There's the problem (lower left contact of the black switch.):

That black stuff is all carbon.

This is after cleaning and filing the contacts a bit.

That square divot was the opposite contact eroding this contact via arcing. You had to wiggle the switch just right to get it to go up. Down was fine, thanks to the express down feature using an actual relay, rather than putting full power through the switch contacts.
Filed all the contacts flat, including the moving ones, filled the divot with a solder blob, and filed it flat. Lightly greased all the moving bits and reassembled. Works like a champ, now.

I think I really want a truck with an 8ft bed at this point in my life. Not only because I'll be buying a lot of furniture soon, but also because my dad has a 7000sqft barn full of poo poo that I'm going to eventually need to start sorting out now while I have time. Also also because I want to start hunting and it'd be nice to have lots of room to haul deer.

I've been looking at F-150s and F-250s, are there other models I should be looking at as well? I'd prefer at least a 4 seater, doesn't necessarily need four doors

Skip the fords. When they break, they really break, in Michigan they rust out in different places than the chevys but rust is rust. Also good luck finding one that seats 4 with an 8 foot bed. Most of them come with a "standard" bed which is like 6.5'.

I had a 2006 2500hd Silverado crew cab with a 8' bed and while the capacity was great it's impossible to park in most normal situations. Get used to the back of the lot and careful on tight turns.

You should look for a base model single cab with an 8' box. The bench seat will handle 3. Sometimes you can find an extended cab with a long bed but they are pretty rare in half ton form and are still hard to park.

Personally I would go with 2012+ Ram or 2007+ tundra. GM is ok if you don't mind the rust.

And FFS don't buy a 2wd truck in Michigan or to go hunting with.

So I got a bizarre phone call from an ex-client this morning. I used to deal with him a couple of years ago before he was fired from his previous employer. He was an "Engineer" (quotes on purpose, I don't think he was recognized as one by our governing body) and I think he got his degree in Zimbabwe or something. He was basically fired for incompetence from what I understand.

Anyhow, calls me out of the blue and makes some small talk. After a couple minutes the reason of the call is very apparent. He asks me to be a reference for him.

Sure I say. I kind of liked the guy and had few problems working with him. Seemed a little disorganized in some ways, but my dealings were generally positive so I really would have no problem doing it.

As we're hanging up, he asks for my email address which I give him, but he then says - "I'll send you a short email with what I need you to say if they call."

I reply "Well, I'll read what you send but if I am a reference I'm going to answer the questions as best I can although I'll keep in mind any highlights you have which you think I should point out."

"Of course, of course.. that's all I can ask." he says.

So I get an email from him an hour later and it's largely some script that has me saying how great a leader and team player he was, how diligent he is and how he reported to me on some major projects (I was involved, but not his supervisor in any shape or form - he was my client). Basically how awesome he is at lowering costs and performing better than expected.

He actually asks me to say his weaknesses are that he's a perfectionist, values work over family (works way to hard) and can't say no to what his superiors ask.

I think I can give him a positive reference, but I don't think I can say what he's asking me to because I simply don't know it to be true... and it's sort of awkward because any prospective employee is going to ask my relationship to him and will probably wonder how I would know some of what he's asking me to say.

I've been a professional reference for a few people in the past, but I've never been asked to be one like this.

I think the gm trucks a little older than the one you posted are the best bang for the buck right now. I see 03-07 6.0 4wd 2500 trucks under 10k with 150k miles. Sometimes at 6-7k, and the occasional 8.1l/allison transmission truck at that price point too if you really want to tote the mail suck gasoline. (Full disclosure, I have a 3500 8.1, and it's great for me but it doesn't leave without a trailer hooked up so fuel mileage is hosed anyhow, it gets 9mpg unloaded or pulling 15k)
