It's easy to read a racism undertone into the story but after talking to him it turns out that the CVS employees were black (like him), which makes this whole thing just completely baffling.

The theory I read on another site is that everyone involved in the story was really high. The store employees got super paranoid and hid, and then the customer spent 30 minutes wandering around the empty store looking for cheese. It starts to make sense in that context.

This is embarrassing, I went to UMass but I thought Hampshire was technically in one of the surrounding towns. Amherst does have a fair amount of land area.
