Don't be ridiculous, they don't have enough money to pay him off. What are you possibly imagining gurm wants to do that he cannot currently afford and considers more important that whatever pride he has left in his work? Stop pretending anyone controls the series other than gurm. It's just as bad as believing he will ever finish the books. He won't. "But the publisher will make him finish the books!". They won't. There are no books.

Has there ever been a more high powered self owning than this dumb motherfucker getting his poo poo overtaken by the breast peddlers at HBO? I think TWOW might come out but nothing after that from his own hands because there's no way his hearts in this anymore. There's no way an honest artist sees his decades old lifes work take on a life like it did around season 1 and 2 and then decide to piss around at nerd conventions rather than buckle down and put out this insanely anticipated work. Think of the wacky number of people who are dying to know what happens next, and he has the oppurtunity to be that guy and do it the way he wants aaaaaaaaaaaaaand nope, I'm gonna poop around with a movie theater and write other poo poo. Faaart. Like I might believe it if he was all hermited up and said he's just a glacial writer who cares so drat much about the details and keeping things straight, but he's really just plain ol' not doing it. He gave up. Other people are telling his story now and he shows absolutely no sign of pain or panic that it should cause someone who gives a poo poo. Rothfuss is also almost on year 6 of writing his 3rd book... and hes a real dick about people asking when its going to come out (when he released his first book he said the entire trilogy was already written and he would be releasing one book a year... that was in 2007. Book 2 came out in 2011.) He also freaked out when people shared a leaked page from book 3 that said basically nothing, when he was the one that leaked the drat thing by accident.

I listened to Name of the Wind on audiobook around 2014 while waiting for TWOW. It was so unbelievably bad that it did it's job of making me forget about TWOW for a while. I'm pretty sure it's got to be some inside joke that I don't get involving how poorly you can write a fantasy novel and still generate a fan base.

grrm is a genius, the tv show is trash and it screwed the pooch on so many points it doesn't matter if it tells his story first or whatever, everyone itt is gonna buy the book if it is ever released and obsess about it for years cause grrm is a loving genius and his books are much better than grandpa tolkien's. unironically, all of it.
