It doesn't for me. I'm order to call from GV, I literally go through the app and call. From there, I get a phone call from GV (which I answer), then it calls the other party. I'm not sure how it's on Android now, but I remember I had it set to where I would dial a number, call it, then at that point had the option to choose if I wanted to use my Sprint number or GV number.

Likewise. I'm 31 now and had been listening to them since I was in high school 16 years ago... turns out they put on a pretty good show, and frankly their music hasn't changed much in that period, but for what they do I think that's a good thing. Thinking about making the jump to Project Fi from an old Sprint family plan. The Google support page for transferring your number to Project Fi says that all you need is an account number and a Sprint PIN. Even if I am not the primary account holder, is the process the same? Or do I need to get together with the primary account holder at a Sprint Store to ensure a transition?

Relatedly, if I leave a family plan, how does that affect the primary account holder? We're near contract renewal time anyways, so I'm hoping its nothing more than a pro-rated ETF.

I've actually been with Sprint for probably 14 years with my family's plan. Slowly, everyone has been going off on their own and now there's two of us left. Don't have any serious grievances with Sprint, but it's just time to go.

I just did this, if you can log in to Sprint.com the PIN numbers and such should be available to you but you might have to look at a bill or something to actually get the account number for some dumb reason, as long as you're authorized on the account to like buy new phones without the primary or whatever, otherwise you'd have to get the info from them.

As for the ETF I was already out of contract so I can't comment on that...actually maybe I wasn't, I was due for a phone upgrade but they do that 22 month thing for that while the contract is two years...it doesn't say anything on the site, billing cycle isn't up until the 10th...can't remember if I got my Note 4 in October or November now. Google says they prorate at $20 per remaining month up to $350 but there's a minimum of $100 charge per device, however I'm not sure if that's related to leasing or not since that would make more sense.

I switched to Fi partly because Note 7s were exploding and mainly due to the service in my area just getting shittier every year instead of better as far as I can tell. For a while I thought it was my phone but my roommate just got a new Note 5 this summer on Sprint and he has similar problems. We'd both get a 4G LTE signal with no bars that would just do loving nothing, like it can see there's an LTE tower in range but can't get a good enough connection to do poo poo with, so you're hosed unless you manually switched over to 3G which is decent for 3G in this area but not great. The bigger problem was even with full LTE bars I was getting less than 2Mbps on SpeedTest.net for the most part. The best I could manage was 5Mbps but that was 3 years ago. I think on WiiMax (heh) I was getting 15Mbps if I had a good signal.

Google Fi has been getting about 30Mbps, I'm assuming that either that's just how it is on T-Mobile or maybe there's a secure Wifi thing nearby but I sorta doubt it. I figure if I start going way over my data limits I'll just switch to t-mo's unlimited plan or whatever, I was hovering between less than a gig to 2 gigs a month on Sprint but with non-lovely speeds that's surely going to go up.

I'm also on a Sprint Family plan with unlimited data. If I got a Pixel, would there be an extra charge to get Sprint to send me a SIM card, or could I use the SIM card out of my current phone? I'm currently using a Galaxy S4 but just last week the bluetooth decided to start being an rear end in a top hat and only connect when it feels like it, so I'm looking for a new phone. Also, does anyone know if I would still have to pay the $20 or whatever per month bullshit surcharge Sprint charges if you get a new phone from them? That's really the only thing that's kept me from upgrading before now. I tried to find an answer to the second question on Sprint's website but didn't find a clear answer.

I was also just reading the Project Fi thread, and making calls on 4G LTE from my house has been pretty spotty and I don't use much data, maybe I would be better off just going with Google Fi?

I can't speak for the Pixel specifically, but I think this applies in general. When I bought my Moto X Pure last year, all I had to do was go into a Sprint store and tell them I bought that phone, and they activated and gave me a SIM card for free. Sprint is loving dumb weird, you can't pop out an activated SIM card and pop it into another phone, you have to get new SIM cards for each phone.

I'm not sure about the surcharge, but I just bought an iPhone 6S via 24-month contract upgrade, and I didn't have to pay any surcharges. Just the cost of the subsidized phone.

I'm on Sprint, and don't think I'll be leaving the carrier any time over the next few years, but would prefer to simply buy the phone up-front so I'm not locked into an agreement/leasing thing.

Does it matter if I purchase the new phone through a Sprint store, a big box like Best Buy or buy it online? Where am I likely to find the best deal?

Anything else I need to do with my S4 before I make the switch? I'm thinking factory reset at least, but it's been a while.

As long as the IMEI isn't blacklisted or anything, you'll be fine. Go into a Sprint store though to ask for a free SIM card. For whatever reason, you can't simply swap your old SIM card into your new phone.

For whatever reason, the SIM's keep changing between devices and dictate stupid things like NFC support and whatnot. Verizon is a tiny bit better, but not by much.

One of these days, when all carriers are LTE only, maybe things will be better similar to GSM only networks. Until then. :/

http://www.lifehacker.com.au/2016/10/report-now-samsung-galaxy-s7-edges-are-exploding-too/

quote:

Uh oh. According to a report on Phone Arena, a Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge in the US has burst into flames while charging. This is allegedly the third such incident involving the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge in the past month. Here's what you need to know.
An anonymous source who "works for one of the big U.S. wireless carriers" recently contacted Phone Arena about a customer who came into his store with a fire-damaged Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge.

According to the customer, the device burst into flames after being left to charge overnight using the supplied Samsung OEM charger. (Ironically, the customer had allegedly received the unit two weeks ago as a replacement for his Samsung Galaxy Note 7.)

There has now been at least three reports of exploding Galaxy S7 Edges since September. (The most serious was an incident in Ohio that caused the owner to suffer second and third degree burns. He is now in the process of suing Samsung.)

Now, we want to stress that there's no reason for Galaxy S& Edge owners to be overly alarmed -- at least, not yet. A few isolated incidents does not mean a safety recall is imminent: it could just be down to human error or a negligible fraction of faulty units. (As Phone Arena notes, the iPhone 7 has also allegedly "exploded" at least once.)

On the other hand, it's worth noting that the 'exploding Note7' debacle started with similarly isolated reports. The global recall occurred many weeks later.

We've contacted Samsung and are awaiting comment. Until we have further information, you should probably keep a closer eye on your Galaxy S7 Edge: especially while it's charging.

UPDATE: Samsung Electronics provided Lifehacker Australia with the following statement:

“We are unable to comment on this specific incident until we obtain and thoroughly examine the phone. Customer safety remains our highest priority and we want to work with any customer who has experienced an issue with a Samsung product in order to investigate the matter and support them. The issues with the Galaxy Note7 are isolated to only that model.”
So the official line from Samsung is that the Galaxy S7 Edge is safe to use; at least when it comes to the specific battery fault affecting Note7s. We'll be updating this story with more news as we have it.

They don't let you sign up for Google Fi if you're in a region not officially covered by both T-Mobile and Sprint. And they base this off of your phone number's area code, so even if you move away, you're out of luck.

I'm on an old SWAC plan that gives me all unlimited for $45 a month. I recently reupped for another 2 years after an exhaustive research period of other carriers. I use between 15-20gb of data a month so I need unlimited and sprint is still the cheapest in that regard. I see a bunch of people talking speeds and just did a speed test and got 4.5mbps on sprints LTE here in Illinois. I've been on Sprint for about 6 years now and it was my first experience with LTE/4g, having US Cellular before that which was only 3g at the time and the speeds were equally terrible. I know speeds are faster on other carriers but I don't know what I'd use it for, and I don't know what I'm missing either. As long as I can stream YouTube and Netflix I'm happy. I still get 3g on some parts of my commute but podcasts fill that void mostly.

I stuck with Sprint through the LTE rollout and it was painful, even unbearable at times, but I still can't beat their prices anywhere for what I need.

You're not the first person to tell me I'm crazy. Maybe I had a defect but the Nexus 6 was the laggiest phone I've ever owned. Trying to type text while waiting for the keyboard to catch up with me was painful (I tried multiple keyboard apps), media apps (specifically Snapchat and Facebook) crashed all the time or timed out and had to be force closed, and the camera lag was so bad you could never get the shot you wanted, it'd always be blurry or wouldn't take the shot until after you pressed the button and had moved the phone.

I don't have any of those issues at all with the HTC 10. Everything is silky smooth and there's no lag or sluggishness with the keyboard or camera.

I only had the Nexus for a few months before I gave up on it. I tried factory resets and it was fully updated each time but it was just an awful experience. Thanks to Swappa though I mostly got back what I paid for it.

Well to be honest, depending on your ownership timeline you could have owned it during the rougher android OS parts then more recent times, that and a custom rom like Pure Nexus would probably have cured a lot of your frustrations as being a Nexus, you have a ton of good Customization options that are more stable and easy to do than other branded phones outside of the Nexus realm.

However the HTC 10 is a drat fine phone and a solid upgrade so either way you should be good for a good while with it.

I didn't have to chat or call anyone. When my contract was up, I was able to browse to the phone in the Sprint store and there was an option to buy the phone with the discount and a renewed 2-year contract. iPhone 7 was $200, 7 Plus was $329, I think. There was mention of an activation fee, but I don't see I was ever charged it.

I activated through the website and didn't have to speak to anyone. The website mentioned an additional $10/month for Premium Data, but it was already on my plan.

So, going from iPhone to a new iPhone is really smooth. I think there may be a difference when you go from Android to Apple or vice versa. When I made that switch 3 phones ago, I had to call in and the rep said something about changing the type of plan I'm on.

I dropped my iPhone 7 and shattered the screen, so I logged on to Sprint.com and re-activated my old iPhone 6. Easy. I finally got around to getting the screen fixed on my 7, and tried to activate it today, but Sprint.com told me that I can't and asked me to chat with them or to go into a store. I tried the chat, and after waiting for 30 minutes, got a rep who told me I can't activate a new phone because my plan has expired and he's not sure he can keep it, but he will try. At that point I closed the chat window and tried calling what used to be the SERO line (888-882-4030), but ended up with someone on the sales team, so I ended that call.

Any thoughts as to what might have happened? Does the system not like it if you activate too many phones on a line?
