The past couple of days I started watching my backlog of TDS to clear out the DVR, and it's pretty sobering seeing all the pre-election content, both the optimism and disbelief that Trump could win but also the occasional warnings, particularly with regards to the Brexit comparisons. :(

The creepiest thing about that interview was realizing halfway through that, when she's not doing her "show-voice"... Tomi Lahren sounds like a much angrier Ellen Page. :stonk:

I'm not surprised. Tomi Lahren is basically those Darmok aliens from Star Trek, except she only speaks in platitudes in the form of run on sentences.

The thing that sticks out to me about this interview is all the times she says "for me"; like she's already acknowledging she's coming from a limited perspective, so she tries to compensate for that by saying "I'm a millennial lol so it's all about me; look how self-aware I am lol". No, you're just an rear end in a top hat with a huge microphone.

Also, I'm not liking the Treasury pick even though he's one of the more "normal" picks. The one thing I hate more than Wall Street is Hollywood. If he had Silicon Valley ties too; he might as well become the Secretary of Everything I Hate About People In Power.

I agree, but it's a healthy sort of "this person will make decisions I disagree with" dislike and not a maddening "this person will wreck critical pillars of American society" dislike that some of the others merit.

I think I dislike that woman more than Ann Coulter. At least with Coulter you occasionally get the feeling she's self-aware and just playing an awful character on TV.

Ann Coulter is 100% self-aware and everything she does is just to sell her lovely books. Just go watch her on the Rob Lowe roast, she's not even trying to hide it. I don't know if that makes Coulter more or less tolerable.
Tomi Lahren on the other hand feels like a true believer, plus being from Dallas, Texas instead of Coulter being from Wasptown, Connecticut probably helps her popularity with the red state crowd.

That is probably the best segment Trevor did leading up to the election actually. I had literally never heard of her before and her reach is monstrous. It's really telling how gigantic influence spreaders can be made virtually anonymous by Facebook simply hiding what it thinks we don't want to see.

She makes me feel fundamentally out of touch with huge swaths of people because I cannot understand how you can continue to function in society after filling up with so much baseless rage on a daily basis.

I get upset about actions that affect other people directly. She gets upset over ideas. I don't understand how you exist in your own skull doing that.

I watched the Daily Show for the first time in a couple weeks last night, but muted the TV when the interview began because Lahren sounded insufferable. Watching the body language was still instructive though. The whole thing was rife with moments tailor made for the *screaming internally* meme. Not a scream of anger, but the despairing wail of a Lovecraft protagonist comprehending an eldritch truth for the first time.

I just watched it and it's amazing that she took 10 minutes to basically answer Trevor's question about the appropriate way of protesting: "Suck it up and shut up".

And it's kind of telling that she sees speaking up as a victim's role as opposed what real victimisation usually looks like, which is terrifying the target into silence.

Only thing I think Trevor messed up is not using the example of attacks on minorities from alleged Trump supporters and if that makes HIS whole movement invalid, using her BLM logic. Then again, her doublethink seems to be "a small percentage = the whole group IF the message is one I dislike"

Edit: Oh, he also used the technique he suggested the mainstream news use with Trump, allow the subject to hang themself by asking for elaboration.

I'm glad Trevor nailed the callback joke a few minutes later. Still watching, but I'm posting on the internet because good god this is difficult to pay full attention to.
