Titanfall 2 story mode made me laugh because one of the later boss fights was against a highly mobile flying type that was painted red and I've no idea how deliberate it was.

I suggest not Eva first, because it will leave you some combination of confused and emotionally exhausted, which isn't a good state in which to watch more anime.

I'm gonna be the bad guy and say, with any of those, try to go in with tempered expectations. They're all wonderful, but anything would have a hard time living up to the hype they get.

I remember seeing some of it when I was younger and thinking it looked cool, so it's mostly just a "actually watch it" thing, but that sucks.

Evangelion was one of the very first anime I ever watched so I can state from personal experience that this is not true.

Heck I'd say Eva is the least draining experience out of those three shows

I'd say the opposite.

I've only watched Eva and Madoka out of that list, and I enjoyed Madoka quite a bit more. So if I was going to suggest one to do first, it would be Madoka.

It's a neatly animated two part 90's OVA which is obviously not going to come close to the manga clocking in at like 60 minutes or something. It's a few cool scenes from the manga animated though. I'm surprised Gunnm/Alita never got a full anime since I'm sure it was pretty popular at one point, though it might also be one of those things that was more popular with western readers than Japanese ones.

A lot of the fun of the OVA boom was just seeing a little piece of something bigger, done in a way that looked better than a tv series would

do they still make OVAs nowadays
|
# ? Dec 1, 2016 15:42 |

Yeah but they're mostly relegated to one off extra episodes of a recently aired anime or based on already popular franchises.

a cartoon duck posted:do they still make OVAs nowadays A bit yeah. Cyborg 009 vs Devilman was recent. There are lots of shows with bonus eps if you wanna count those. Plenty of OVAs are screened theatrically on release day too. Yamato 2199 got that treatment. Ditto with stuff like Gundam Unicorn and The Origin. They still exist but it's a different environment.

Counterpoint: people can be very hosed up and depressing, and that is literally all Eva shows.
