I mean, hillary actually had a fair number of pro-working class programs in her platform. People like to claim that they weren't the right kind and thus didn't appeal to those voters, but it's also pretty clear she assumed the Obama voters were a lock and didn't put much effort into those states. Hubris and poor polling led the Clinton campaign to think a bunch of states were solid blue despite their massive losses during the midterms. She was also sabotaged by her own reputation as a political manipulator, which was not unearned. People don't like political dynasties, especially since Bush Jr was such a gently caress-up. And now we'll all pay the price for those mistakes.

Polling is in a remarkably bad place right now and i will be interested to see how confidence in pollsters and aggregators declines during 2018 and 2020, if it does at all

It is kind of cool to see how deeply the idea that politicians are smarter than we are runs. People who insisted that Hillary had it as a lock are now bludgeoning her for failing to interpret the data properly.

maybe instead of relying on poll numbers to assume states are a lock, candidates can try their hardest and tailor policies that benefit many specific places instead of just campaigning in florida, ohio, nevada and north carolina every election because that's all you need to promise people to get in office.

relitigating the primary is pointless

but we're already seeing the excuses solidify: 'it's sanders'/stein's fault'; 'well trump lost the popular vote so technically she won'; 'the freakign russians!!!'

they need come to terms with clinton being a bad candidate, and why, or they'll lose in 2018 and 2020 as well. it'll depend on them taking more than the aesthetics from the obama campaign. i think it's more likely they'll keep thinking the choice is between blue dogs and despicable technocrats tho.

But that has the issue of communicating policies in an environment where 1) media is heavily individualized and 2) most people don't care to pay attention to lengthy stuff about politics. And it also assumes that the issue was policy, rather than personal antipathy, belief that the election was already won, etc.

You also have the twin issues of 1) figuring out what the 46% of eligible voters who don't vote want enough to get them to go to the polls and 2) whether this is actually superior at achieving things compared to establishing a narrative that people latch onto.

Finally, the people who are talking about this generally are also people who loudly boast about how compromise is inherently evil, so you've got the problem of getting people to listen to your ideas when you've just told them you'll inevitably refuse to support them when they need it most.

Ada is a complex computer algorithm that the campaign was prepared to publicly unveil after the election as its invisible guiding hand. Named for a female 19th-century mathematician — Ada, Countess of Lovelace — the algorithm was said to play a role in virtually every strategic decision Clinton aides made, including where and when to deploy the candidate and her battalion of surrogates and where to air television ads — as well as when it was safe to stay dark.

I mean, Jeremy Corbyn isn't black, but yeah pretty much those other things. Jeremy Corbyn is cool and he pulled in a bunch of people who'd never bothered to care about their party before, including a big increase in party registration -- important if you want to have change in a party's direction and leadership.
