It makes sense to me. Besty was trying his hardest but was never quite doing it and the cycles were probably really depressing and stressful for him. NK didn't know how to handle it so he sealed him to spare him from the cycles. Maybe him leading everyone together and to this nightmare master is his way of saying he is ready to be more honest about the whole thing and deal with it once and for all. That's my guess anyways. Regardless of why, Besty better become a new party member though.

Obviously the solution is to add him to the party and drag him off to the ends of the earth and into the final confrontation with his dad. He's the right size. Just a bit bigger than the others in the party, typical for the big bad's misbegotten son or the traitorous servant.
