Not sure how long it has been up but I see that six seasons of the Showtime versions of Shameless are available on Netflix. Great show if you haven't seen it. Haven't seen any other show that swings between the most absurd poo poo ever on TV to serious tear jerking moments.

I unapologetically love everything about Boyhood. I can totally understand other opinions on it, but something about it resonated with me on a very deep level. My childhood didn't mirror his, but there was enough there that I could relate to the character throughout.

Why is Amazon Prime trying to be Youtube? It used to be I just ran across the random short comedy videos and lego unboxings and so on via InstantWatcher but now they're in the console interface when you look for "movies". Browse through comedy movies and there are like 100 Funny or Die sketches. Sometimes those are good, but it's really annoying to have to browse through a bunch of web shows to get to actual feature films.

Jose Oquendo posted:Amazon Prime has a great selection but navigating it loving sucks. My main problem with them is they seem to have no technical standards- they've got a lot of obscure, niche little B movies, which is good, but all in the shittiest of picture quality. And maybe with some of these films it's unavoidable but it's still a shame.

The excellent 1959 film Compulsion (Dean Stockwell, Orson Welles) is on Netflix now. Highly recommended.

The best thing to do with Prime is when you find a movie you know you'll wanna watch, watchlist that poo poo so you won't have to go searching for it ever again.

There are many line readings where I am pretty sure the actresses involved were thinking "I can't believe I have to say this poo poo with a straight face" and it shows on their faces. Holy wow what a turd of everything wrong and precious about indie films. I thought Frances Ha (Noah Baumbach and Greta Gerwig's first truly co-movie) was a lot better. For some reason I really like Greta a lot despite her being pretty much one note so far. That said Noah's earlier movie The Squid and The Whale is probably his best. nate fisher fucked around with this message at 19:19 on Dec 3, 2016 |

I saw Maggie's Plan when it was in theaters and enjoyed it, and Gerwig's performance, for the most part. Definitely had its preciousness, which normally gets on my nerves, but it worked well enough. Good cast overall, Ethan Hawke, Julianne Moore with a ridiculous German accent, Bill Hader and Maya Rudolph, and Wallace Shawn (I think?).

That's funny, I was going to edit and compare it directly to Hot Fuzz, it has the heart and bombast of Edgar Wright with the outstanding humor of Key and Peele, who are my jam. My jam!

I'll give that a watch, Hot Fuzz is my favorite comedy "thing" since Arrested Development. Which is definitely "what you should watch on streaming" if you like comedy yet have never seen it.

Keanu hits a really good stride, but by the climax the action staging and cinematography just isn't there. Pete Atencio ain't no Edgar Wright. Heck, he isn't even a Tim Miller.

Hot Fuzz is funny and all but it's not a laugh riot that also deserves every oscar like people make it out to be.

I didn't know people were making it out to be. I mean, it's a better Shaun of the Dead, and I can watch either one on any given day. That doesn't mean it's a laugh riot. It's just amazingly well put together.

I like Key and peele quite a bit but Keanu fell sort of flat for me. It had some funny parts but I thought it dragged, which often seems to happen when a sketch show gets turned into a movie.

I thought Keanu was good. I was expecting something goofier, but the tone and humor was much darker than I was expecting. It's like Pineapple Express and John Wick, except the protagonists are incapable of using any guns or combat. Good stuff.

It really just depends on how much you like Key and Peele I reckon. I literally can't get enough of them, I've watched every season of their show at least 3 times each by now. And when Jordan switches rapidly between "nerd Jordan" and "thug Jordan" I lose my poo poo every. fuckin. time. That's the real gangsta poo poo, yeeeeah!

I thought I posted it here already but must've forgot. Mercenary is on Netflix, it's a really bleak drama about a young pacific islander who burns his bridges by taking an opportunity to go to France and play Rugby.. And it doesn't really turn out well. I expected it to be about him joining the FFL and ending up Killing All The Bad Guys but it's not. It's hard to watch but riveting. It's a french film so there are subtitles - but honestly there's just not a lot of dialogue compared to most movies, and you can glean almost everything from the faces of the characters. edit: oh yeah, animals were very definitely harmed during the making of this film, so if you can't stand seeing a hog actually get killed - you've been warned. Supremacy is also quite good - Danny Glover always kills it in these dramas about racism, and this one's no exception. It's a fictionalized retelling of a member of the Aryan Brotherhood and their day or so of freedom after getting out of prison. Anson Mount killed it and I almost didn't recognize him. coyo7e fucked around with this message at 23:40 on Dec 7, 2016 |

I just watched Creed on Prime. Holy poo poo, that movie is amazing. It easily could have ended being schmatzly, a needless cash-in, or just plain bad but it was definitely something that made reviving the series after nearly a decade something worthwhile.

I thought it was a perfect end to the series, so the fact I absolutely adore Creed says a lot. E: It does suck that Balboa is the one Rocky movie not included with a Prime subscription (you need showtime), since like I said, that's another fantastic movie that sounds like an unnecessary sequel. Double E: I love the bits in the final fight where someone gets hit and the cutman starts putting vasoline on his glove or smacking some icepacks. Very true to life as far as good cutmen go.
