Someone needs to do a write up on everything that happened this episode, and tying it in with the series. I feel there is lots of nuance and things that will be overlooked.

Of course Westworld is better than (current) Game of Thrones. That was the best season of television in a long long while. Excellent storytelling.

Clocks posted:So we know that due to the bicameral mind etc, when they hear Arnold they're really hearing themselves. In Maeve's case, it's interesting. Bernard could read her next moves in her code and knew what was going to happen. So if she really was reprogrammed by Arnold's "voice" in her head, then her subconscious knows what she's going to do before she does, which is, well... maybe not that different from humans, I dunno.

Given what Ford was saying in voice-over when Maeve decided to get off the train, my guess is that Ford programmed Maeve's narrative all the way up until she got on the train, and then created a situation where she would have to choose between freedom and going after her "daughter". The VO was something like "They would have to make hard choices for themselves."

Maeve hasn't actually achieved consciousness yet (or perhaps she did at the very end when she chose to leave the train). The "Arnold" manipulating code was revealed near the end of the episode to actually be Ford - he wrote Maeve's narrative to appear like she was gaining consciousness and escaping, but for some other purpose to play a role in his grand plan. Most likely things like turning off the power to the base and fixing Bernard.

Romanworld and Medievalworld looked pretty lame in the movie. I think feudal Japan will be cool, if that's where the show is going.

Most likely things like turning off the power to the base and fixing Bernard. That's what I assumed, too. I think I'm just confused because earlier in the season Felix did notice some changes attributed to Arnold in her code, so I wondered if I misinterpreted Bernard's discovery that she's just following new programming being Ford's work. But it probably was Ford, because the slaughter she led Hector and Armistice to do definitely served Ford's purpose.

The Glumslinger posted:Yeah, I think it was a distraction so that they could activate the room full of cold storage hosts and not have security immediately notice Right yeah that too. The fact that Maeve went to cold storage just so they could fix Bernard is the biggest red flag that it wasn't just her making these decisions.
