By the way, if my Santa from last year is watching the thread this year, I thought you might enjoy knowing that the dice bag and deck box you sent me have seen a great deal of use at the local conventions this past year, and the mat really eased my mind when I was playing card games, because I'm a lame scrub that doesn't use card sleeves, so having the extra insurance against unseen bits of water on the table is helpful.

Leperflesh posted:Gosh! Apparently your Secret Santa forgot an important part of Step 6, which is to post indicating that your present has been mailed. It's understandable, some goons have done TGSS a lot before and maybe don't go back and re-read all the rules, it can get tedious, etc. Ahem Kai Tave posted:BOOM, gift sent! That's right Felime, it was me, your Secret Santa who sent you that thing that you got! Judging by your posts in the Warmachine thread you seem to be a pretty ardent Cygnarian but Cygnar doesn't have dogs so I went with the next best thing. The way I figure it you can either use it as a loaner battlebox to let people you're introducing to the game play or you can use it as the foundations of an entirely new army in the proud tradition of tabletop wargamers everywhere. Oh, and I just sent off my Lightning Round 2 gift just now.

A box has arrived! I tried to get my faithful hound to help me open the box but he was afraid of it. YOU TERRIFIED MY DOG, YOU MONSTER! Anyway, despite being left to defend myself from the horrors of the box, I bravely opened it all by myself to discover... Ascension and a robot thing. I don't know anything about Gundams except that the physics makes my eyes roll but I'm sure I shall have fun putting it together and pretending that I'm totally going to paint it one day. Thanks a lot for both mystery UK Goon! Also surprise dong on the note. Curse you Secret Santa!

The one good thing about breaking a bone in your foot is that when you stay home is that you can lay your hands on your gifts the second a postman rings. Curiously, that was one big-rear end package. My mind instantly begins wondering just how many dongs could be stuffed in there. The possible dong bomb is forwarded to the gift inspector who confirms my suspicions of the rattling sound the entire package makes - like it's full of legos or something. Well, it turns out the Amazon Prime duct tape was a red herring and there's a lot of carefully hand-packed poo poo in there. Where to even begin? - A collection of short stories by Roger Zelazny. You can never go wrong with Zelazny! - The Whispered World: Special Edition. This is pretty cool, I ate my teeth on adventure and IF games, but haven't been keeping track of the games the Germans keep putting out every once in a while. I vaguely remember this getting good press back in the day and the screenshots certainly look stunning. For a second I was worried this is a German language version (and my command of that language is rusty af), but rest assured, it's multilingual. - Southern Cross, what looks like a comic about claustrophobic spaceships and weird creepy poo poo. Looks really like my jam on a skim through. - Chimera, some small card game I haven't heard of, but have trust in the Z-Man Deluxe series. This being (it looks like) a contemporary designed game for a slightly-tweaked traditional card deck, should help rope in some family members. - 7 Wonders: Duel, of which I heard only great things about! - The Valmy Campaign: a Napoleonics wargame from Against the Odds magazine publishers. I usually regard such small-publisher wargames as more of collector's items than real games (and the poser art black Napoleon cover really doesn't do it a favor), but upon rummaging through the box, it actually looks somewhat neat. The production quality is quite nice for a wargame (mounted board!), there's a battle box separate from the operational map (love that gimmick/mechanic) and counter holding boxes for Friedrich-style fog of war organized in a pleasing OOB. It also contains a bonafide Leipzig postcard wargame as a bonus! And the box doubles as a counter tray! - Last, but not least, Inspector Morse some unholy marriage of Snakes & Ladders, Cluedo and Sherlock Holmes: Consulting Detective based on some posh murder mystery show. It's utterly terrible in all the right ways and I'm already cracking at the one-page rules that open with "the goal of the game is to win". I also appreciate that the three cases are based on particular episodes of the show, so actual Inspector Morse fans probably had the mysteries solved before they even unwrapped the game itself. What can I say other than thanks a LOT, Santa? The whole box is not only very generous, funny and cool, but also I have to admit you've made some real good guesses as to my tastes! The cheer exceeded my expectations by a mile!

Haven't gotten anything in the mail for a little while, oh well I'm sure it's just the holiday season and WOAH, two packages??? Oh wait, one of them is something I ordered for myself. But the other one most definitely isn't! It's definitely something substantial, what could it possibly be? Halloween in December! Hell yes, Fury of Dracula, one of the soon-to-be out of print boardgames thanks to Games Workshop continuing to be an endless ocean of knobs, this has definitely been on my to-buy list and thanks to my generous Secret Santa I can now cross it off. My generous and completely anonymous Secret Santa I might add, I looked to see if there was a note or anything in the box but there wasn't, so if I missed something sorry about that, but thank you very much whoever you are. But I need to ask you, o spirit of seasonal generosity, to reveal yourself along with how much this lovely gift cost you so that I might fulfill my blood oath and make a charitable donation in your name to the organization of your choice! If you wish to remain anonymous you can do so through Leperflesh, and if you don't wish to disclose the financial side of things then I can simply make a $30 donation in your stead.

My correspondence is telling me that a box as big as a kitchen drawer has arrived and is bulging in the middle. He hasn't opened it, so I'm completely in the dark and unable to tell you what awesome thing is in it, but it is in fact there, and at some point, I will open it when I'm back home. Gifts received! I was awoken by a man who didn't speak English. He hung up, and I was promptly called by a man who did speak English, telling me my package from Hong Kong was to be delivered this morning (it's currently midnight now, so I guess actually yesterday morning for me). Because of my move, a different goon actually received the package. It was then passed on to at least one other goon before finally landing in my hands. One goon's expert opinion is it's a box of dongs. Let's see... A bit small for a box of dongs. Though this is Asia, and it was ordered from Hong Kong, so... Aha! It's games! A copy of Coup and a Carcassonne expansion (part of the reprint). Awesome! I've played Coup before, it's a fun game and I'm happy to have my own copy. I'll have to wrangle up a couple of goons to try out this new expansion of Carcassonne. Thanks, Santa. I know through the magic of our mediator, Leperflesh (whose name I keep reading Leperfish for some reason) it was a bit of a pain to get something sorted to send here. Thanks for your patience and your gifts.
