I'm not terribly convinced about Escort mode, if the VIP mech is a bot with a static path people are just going to find a good spot to setup along it that forces the enemy to walk into the firing line. If a random player is chosen to pilot it then I'm more hopeful it won't be terrible camping snipefest.

Yeah I'm getting the bad feeling that escort mode is going to be the mode every single person or group running a sniper/lrm setup is going to vote for once it's in. The Polar Highlands of modes, if you will.

I mean this could possibly be eased by scouting ahead and harassing/flanking the firing line from the side, though who knows. My bigger concern is that it would be piss easy for some rear end in a top hat in a Shadowcat or Spider to just whittle the thing's legs away from a distance and be really hard to counter. Like against players they can take safer routes or cover, but the dumb AI mech won't bother and its only gonna take like 10 PPC shots max to tear a leg off, can your team stop one fast rear end in a top hat from firing 10 times over the course of a match? edit: christ, can you imagine running a locust wolfpack on offense? I've been picturing super-fast lights doing drive-by NARCing of the VIP myself. I'll be really interested to see how Escort works, but I'm expecting it to be bad. Really bad.

I mean, this is one of the times ECM and AMS can really shine, since being an ECM bot and just staying close to the VIP will block any NARC on it. Of course, you'll have no idea which side you'll be on when you choose the mode and you will have already chosen your mech, so lol.

I'm very interested in the quick play game modes being brought into faction play with dropship reinforcements also possibly being a thing in those matches. A drop on quickplay maps where I get to play both locusts AND atlases in the same map!? I'm just looking forward to getting my 100mil or so i've blown on modules due to how much of a pain in the rear end it was to find them between builds. And on the subject of shameful amounts of xp. My Illest Murdermets topped 1 million xp, and my timbro is around 780k xp.

The thing is, if all mechs have uneven max values, then the new system is no different than the current. For example, if a grf-1s can have 30% max laser bonuses but a hbk-4j only get 10% max laser bonuses, you pretty much made the choice for them. That's really no different than what we have now, we're just putting our grind in the quirks instead of standard bonuses.

The map will consist mostly or entirely of a narrow canyon / tunnel / urban street, with non-climbable cliffs / walls / skyscrapers on either side and lots of narrow turns. I don't have any specific information, but this is how 99% of games implement escort missions and I don't expect PGI to rock the boat in that regard.

Is the Cyclops (currently) lovely? They apparently just made it available for C-bills (or will be in a few hours anyway). I've always liked how that goofy 'Mech looks and I don't already own any Assaults.

They are removing quirks and modules, refunding you the cbills and xp and work them into a new skill tree that looks to be a horrible grind compared to the current skill tree. Also no more 3 mech rule which is good! Its going to be interesting and I think in the end better than what we have currently but in the beginning I have a feeling it will have a rough start.

Oh, I thought that the tree was supposed to replace just modules and the current "trees" which aren't actually tree-like. Disappointing that they're going after quirks as well since I thought that was a fun way to differentiate 'mechs.
