Don't forget he is (was?) a cop and even had some TV show and did training seminars for police departments showing self defense and his Hollywood tactics? I don't know. He's also a genuine pos and has underage Ukrainian sex slaves or something. Sorry for the derail but I guess at least it's a funny one?

I loved his cops show cos he was like a "special officer" or some bs and he'd always show up at crime scenes and act like some kind of super detective while all the real cops stood in the background looking annoyed.chitoryu12 posted:Are you not American? He wasn't a cop he was a reserve deputy in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana. They give out deputy commissions to anyone who buys one in SE Louisiana.

Is it not cheaper to just have a B52 carpet bomb the whole neighbourhood with 1000 pound dumb bombs than use that many guided munitions?

Well, I suppose that depends on how much value you put in whatever portion of the 1.5 million civilians living in Mosul are in that neighborhood.

A JDAM is worth something like 15 mins of B-52 flight time, if you have to send a B-52 along with some escorts loaded up with dumb bombs instead of a flight of Mudhens you're probably losing money.

Look at the video clips from Vietnam. I'd wager you'd be lucky to get 1 or 2 of those on target and you'd have a decent swath of destruction following the path of the plane. Or you can drop a handful of bombs exactly where you want them.

Not necessarily carpet bombing, but the rest of the buildings surrounding it appear to be part of the same ... compound? Seems like demolishing one building would just have them relocating to the next one over - if they're already dropping bombs on this target what's the downside of finishing the job?

Surely you could bomb during the day without escorts with virtual impunity and aren't modern bombsights accurate enough to flatten the area? I used to read about the siege of Khe Sahn where B-52's were bombing from high altitude and still not hitting the airbase 3-500 meters from their target. glynnenstein posted:Well, I suppose that depends on how much value you put in whatever portion of the 1.5 million civilians living in Mosul are in that neighborhood. You're entering in to a Trump presidency so I think we all know the answer is nothing. It will be good practice for the eventual bombings of Detroit, Flint and Camden.

We don't carpet bomb with the B-52 anyways anymore. They drop one or two guided bombs and then hold the rest of the payload for later.

Yes we improved bomb sights by inventing guided bombs so 1 accurate bomb can do the job of 100 inaccurate ones

And besides, if we were going to carpet bomb, we have a much better way of doing that: Cluster Bombs. You can even have multiple smart bomblets like the ones the Russians are using in Aleppo.

Are they also made to look like toys? We aren't allowed cluster munitions anymore because of Princess loving Diana. Don't worry though, the Queen made sure she got hers.
