The more I get to know people, the more clear it becomes that there really are only two sides to this fight, no matter what the issue at hand is it correlates exactly with a simple belief. Those who believe it is good for housing prices to go up (bad people, inludes Obama) and those who believe it should go down (good people) Everything else seems to fall out from that, because it reflects the basic underlying dichotomies that divides our nation - if we suceed, is it good or bad for other people to be able to join us at the top? Is success absolute or relative? Is our worth based on what we have accomplished or who we have surpassed? Any Democrat that supports rising house prices may or not be a racist, but the underlying mentality that makes racism a bad thing runs strong in their blood and they are just as horrible as any racist even if we dont have the loaded words to describe them so effectively, and it should be no surprise so many of their actions seem to support racist institutions even as they claim to fight racism.

The phrase as I use it is not to be condescending, but rather indicative of how firmly the wool has been pulled over people's eyes. Edit: But if we don't let it get worse then JC can't merge with Helios. Aurubin has issued a correction as of 17:38 on Dec 9, 2016 |

Regarding the DNC chair - I wonder if which faction wins is just as important as who it actually is. Establishment may put up someone further left than normal, but it's still the establishments pick and re-cements their control of the party. Ellison represents the progressive wing, and if we want to control the party it's important we get our way in these fights.

I think you have to be careful with this line of reasoning. Yes, it is another form of the have's versus the have-not's. Another example of people trying to pull up the ladder behind them. But, there are plenty of people who qualify as "not rich" who have purchased houses and are very adversely affected by dropping house prices. If you spent 100k on a house, borrowed 80k of that, and now the house costs 60k you are pretty much hosed. It becomes infinitely harder to find a job, move to take care of a sick family member, get additional credit, or put additional money into home improvements. Housing should be affordable, yes, of course. But saying you're a lovely person if you don't want to lose what can essentially be your life savings overnight doesn't exactly ring true.

If you are going to live somewhere for 5+ years, then the fact that some bank says your house is worth less then you paid for it means fuckall. My car is now worth less then I paid for it This adversely affects my life somehow.

If you are going to live somewhere for 5+ years, then the fact that some bank says your house is worth less then you paid for it means fuckall. the only way you should look at housing as an investment is that when you pay it off you don't owe money for housing expenses anymore and that means you can actually start investing that money into something like you literally lose nothing when your house's value decreases other than the potential to refinance or it's long term potential to sell and if you need to refinance to afford your house that is probably a problem with your decision making process that house/car/etc is an investment poo poo is a baby boomer thing all the way. it's the kind of thing you get into the mentality of when you think it's appropriate to change houses every ten years and cars every two because you've always had money and lived in a society where consumption was possible for you. I buy a car for ten years. I'm 32 and I'm not in a house and I won't be until I'm ready to plant roots somewhere for a long, long, long time. It's dumb to buy a house if you don't plan to stay there as long as possible. Rent a big apartment if you have kids, but the whole point of owning something is that you don't have to pay for it forever. Mirthless has issued a correction as of 17:59 on Dec 9, 2016 |
