Y'know that feeling you get when you listen to a song from a movie's soundtrack, and you feel something? Something like a sense of dread, anxiety and overall fear of what could be lurking around the corner? The kinda feeling you get without needing visual cues of any kind, because your brain fills in the blanks for you based on how scary the song is? The kind of feeling you get where, if you're alone, you're too scared to move into the next room where it's dark because you're afraid something will pop out at you and take you to the depths of hell itself, even though you know fully well that there's nothing there but the music you just listened to makes you feel otherwise? Yeah, let's talk about that. Recently, I've been listening to the opening themes for Halloween II and III. I never saw either movies, but the songs alone conjure up images of being alone in the middle of nowhere in the middle of the night. No one around for miles, and yet, you somehow feel like you're being watched. 80's style synthesizers will do that to you I suppose. Especially that piercing tone at the very beginning of Halloween 3's theme, gets me every time. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8JflWFBreok https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qsHMnWAjICs

Oh poo poo I remember reading the book years ago in middle school. Haven't seen much of the movie but from what I can tell from pics and other parts of the OST that aren't creepy, it's depressing as gently caress.

What is it about that cheerful flute bit at 1:21 that gives you the worst sense of fear? It's honestly terrifying.

Some non-horror: The first half of this track, made the movie feel like it was going to be a serious sci-fi horror thing the first time I saw it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o6pnBOTRovc From 1:04 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8yjmd0ifC2c

The phantasm theme owns in every permutation and is probably a big reason why a series so silly and kind of incomprehensible at times continues to endure in its own little way https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C9vpG_b8beQ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NRq4T_hfptU poo poo owns even in DISCO https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xihGJveutQ8

Full Metal Jacket is not a horror movie but it has some very good creepy music in the soundtrack, these are my favorites: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qVv1XsGMv-I https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YEql5rc9X0A The composer is listed as "Abigail Mead" but that's actually a pseudonym for Vivian Kubrick

David Cronenberg's longtime contributor, Howard Shore, has made some fantastic scores. One of the reasons Videodrome is one of my favorite movies of all time is the score: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rVhVCpmBuR8 His score for Existenz, like the movie itself, calls back in some ways to Videodrome: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rVhVCpmBuR8
