Speaking as a software engineer, I have to say computer interfaces have always worked pretty well until people like me get hired for big bucks to basically move all the buttons around. Then you get to pay a humongous "certification" fee to find out where I've hidden the most useful buttons.

It's probably really bad to use an OS that's constantly spying on me but I need my videogames to look as shiny as possible so Windows 10™ it is! My only hope is that the bottom falls out of the "constantly spy on your users" market.

if you keep your OS updated which you should then win7 has all the telemetry stuff that people were upset win10 had but who cares. everyone voluntarily posts way more personal information on social media than windows will ever gather, chances are google maps knows your every step if you have a phone, basically complaining that win10 spies on you is like being in chernobyl and complaining that someone coughed without covering their mouth

but at what point do the bidders just go "nah, we already know everything about this guy from Facebook, his ISP, his cell phone, his email, his web searches.. etc" and the margins just become too small to yet again plunder the same data from me? I guess the answer is that plundering that data is basically free so we're all screwed.

well when you're installing a fresh copy of windows 7 make sure you never allow the update kb3146706 to install. because i just did that on my 2 hour old windows 7 installation and it has utterly destroyed it. after a full hour of it trying to install i forced it to stop, and now we're a couple minutes past an hour of it trying to stop the installation. i'm tempted to reformat and reinstall windows again because its probably been poisoned. thanks microsoft!

It really isn't that bad, its basically windows 7 + tablet and touch screen stuff laid on top of it. You can ignore all of that if you want, but it does make it feel a bit bloated. I still prefer Windows 7, but I wouldn't go to the trouble of downgrading a new PC to 7, just like its not really worth it to upgrade from 7.

its North Koreas homebrew OS Red Star! it has such great features as phoning home and reporting on all activities of the user, watermarking every single file placed on the hard drive (or in attached USB sticks), and fake settings to disable various features that dont disable anything (but phone home again  )

I am still butthurt I was recently forced to upgrade to win 7 from xp and I hate it, it keeps loving up the file permissions so when I try to view logs to pinpoint the source of it's latest fuckery it won't allow me, no matter how many times I set them. Windows 10 can go gently caress itself.
