I'll add that given where we drop bombs nowadays destroying square footage is not a good metric since most everything there is made up of mud brick and low quality poured concrete blocks. Hardly critical infrastructure.

Less "carpet bombing" and more "why leave any of that compound standing?" The probable answer is that we didn't have enough certainty that the other buildings were worth striking. Sure, it's "only" another $100k, but anybody who survived that attack is getting the gently caress out of the area and setting up somewhere else so is it really worth it? There may have been collateral damage concerns with the other buildings, too. But I think it's just a quick cost/benefit analysis.
