The people behind 2 really 'got' dead rising, and I'm glad the first 2 games have amazing OSTs.

Gone Guru has some incredible rhymes, all else aside. "Ballyhoo" and "didgeridoo" is top-tier

Gone Guru is most notable for the shared PTSD it invokes, the song itself is good fun but not good musically

Once you're sufficiently leveled up and have been Quickstepping everywhere so you have time to spare, you can also just go out and kite them into a pole or tree and kill them in 10 seconds. As a bonus you get that sweet ride and machine gun.

My personal favorite was once getting so fed up that I ran all the way to the northwest corner of the area, grabbed the sports car from the parking lot just outside the basement entrance, and T-boned those fuckers head on. It didn't kill them, but it instantly disabled their vehicle and made them easy pickings. Seriously, for as much grief as those assholes might have caused, you have to give them that they were memorable.

The first time I killed them, I managed to get them stuck between two trees somehow, so I could just empty a shotgun into the lot of them. Playing it again recently, I'm actually surprised by how relatively easy it is to deal with them. I think I must just be used to more complex situations in games by now.

I have to admit that the first time I encountered the convicts I just kited them into trees and then smashed their heads in so I never quite got in on the meme about how horrifying they were though I understand it in concept. I do, however, get the meme about that goddamn song.

The convicts are only really a pain when you've got survivors with you. On your own, it's fairly easy to take them out.

Having now watched... 8 hours of footage I can safely say these things 1. This is basically Dead Rising 3 except brighter 2. Frank needs to shut his loving mouth because his quips ever 10 seconds are not as funny as the person writing this game seems to think they are. 3. Frank had his rear end in a top hat factor rammed up to unlikable. He's obsessed with his fame and nothing else. Which is a pretty rapid departure from how he previously was where he absolutely wanted the world to know his name and to put himself back in the spotlight, but was genuinely a decent person underneath it all. 4. Whoever decided that the one thing missing from DR1 was Kent being an ally is a loving monster for making Vicky. She is an awful person, in a game of NPCs who are unlikable she is the least likable. 5. This plot makes less sense than usual 6. For all the hyping up of the game being set in the new mall, you're there for about an hour, and then you're basically in Los Perdidos again. 7. There is no such thing as fun super zombies who leap around like ninja's and take a billion hits to kill. On that same note, saying "Well, the Fast Zombies are actually Freshly Infected Zombies" is frankly really stupid, since it's been 6 weeks since the outbreak occurred. If it's only the "Freshly infected" there should be like... one or two, not a loving horde of them. 8. By far the worst bosses. Not just because the Maniacs are all boring as poo poo. But even the in-story boss fights are dull affairs. If I had to rank the games It'd be like... OTR>2>1>The DLC add-on for 3, 4<>3, CTYD. Like 4 is maybe a better game than 3? It's basically which flavor of poo poo you prefer. Boring or insulting. Although I'm pretty sure everyone else already came to this conclusion seeing as the thread's been quiet and I've not seen discussion anywhere else.

So after reading up in this thread etc.. im guessing the best bang for my fun buck is getting Dead Rising 2: Off the Record? I dont know how coop works in these but im looking to pickup a couple of copies. Is sandbox mode coop? Is campaign coop? Do we both play frank? How required is a controller for this?

Onmi posted:Having now watched... 8 hours of footage I can safely say these things Please don't feel as if you have to share your opinion based upon footage you've watched. That's a valid source of customer research, but as a basis for critical evaluation, it's fundamentally lacking. 1, 2) Yeah, I agree, although there are a couple of mechanical steps backward from DR3. I like the new inventory system even if it is effectively a buff, but I miss the ability to throw melee weapons, because I'm the dude who spends DR2 bouncing cash registers off of people. 3) I think I get what they were going for: Frank is deliberately keeping everyone at arm's length because he doesn't want yet another dead friend on his conscience. He's definitely too wry. 4) Vick isn't that bad. Searching for her collectibles gives you a much broader idea of her characterization and motivations than simply watching the cutscenes, and you're outright handed a couple of her uploads by Brad at various points. Basically, she showed up in the field intending to cover the story, wound up compromising in order to try to keep as many people alive as possible, and went way over the top when she figured out the real story. She's deliberately meant as a younger, more idealistic foil to Frank. 5) It makes plenty of sense, although it's built on a hefty retcon. Obscuris was employed by the U.S. government for research and development on "Project Saturn": whether or not zombies could be trained to carry out menial labor, using cloned infectees. They conducted that research in Willamette while they searched for Barnaby's data, but when they found his old lab, they also found the experimental technology that ended up saving Calder. Calder goes crazy and becomes virtually unstoppable, causing the second Willamette outbreak on Black Friday by running amok at the mall, and Obscuris locks down Willamette so they can pursue Calder and the sole remaining copy of Barnaby's research data that he's carrying around with him. 6) Yeah, definitely a valid criticism. The marketing would have had you believe you were stuck in the mall for the entirety of the game again. 7) I didn't have a problem with the fresh zombies because there are still hundreds of surviving humans left in Willamette, between Obscuris, the civilians, the cultists, and the militia. There's still a lot of people running around, and a lot of "fresh" zombies are explicitly newly-dead soldiers or cultists. 8) Yeah, you're not wrong. I think the most "interesting" boss fight in the entire game is Fontana, since at least you aren't stuck into a loving exo suit to do it.

I don't know if it works with sandbox though I'm sure it does. The campaign supports full co-op though. Host is Frank, client is Chuck. Makes the Chuck fight slightly awkward. Never played non-controller so you might look up Steam reviews (or reviews from sites/publications when it releases) and see if they mention quality m&kb support. You both have to stay in the same loaded area but that shouldn't be an issue if you're playing with a friend.

Dead Rising 4 is kind of a mess but I'm near the end of Case 2 and Frank's personality, default outfit, the city's design and overall tone makes the entire game feel like a reimagining of Evil Dead A Fistful of Boomstick , which I played and finished over a decade ago and never expected to think about ever again. Other than that the game feels extremely empty despite how detailed the environments are. Most of my time so far has been spent following the objective marker and very rarely I'll get a prompt to clear a safe house. Is that really all there is to do? Unless you're into hunting collectibles there doesn't seem to be anything to do now that you no longer have to escort survivors and the timer is gone.

Pretty much. The maniac's have no personality so they're basically just stronger Mobs. Once you have the Ice Sword everything in the game melts and ceases to be a threat. Beyond that, exactly what you described.
