I don't know how it all works but Oculus made a big deal about giving developers royalty free Home keys. I don't know if Steam charges developers for keys or not, but everyone was clapping and it sounded like it was something cool and good.

edit: Also you can get Arizona Sunshine on Home for 33.99 for the next ~17 hours from the Humble Store. Link on their page here: http://www.arizona-sunshine.com/

For whatever reason the Steam version does not use the Oculus SDK and only has SteamVR support.

You can buy Elite anywhere and get both Oculus and Steam keys for it.

e: Apparently people have also been able to get Adr1ft Home keys by contacting 505Games support - there are probably a few other publishers that will do the same. It sounds like there's still no way to automate the process; Frontier can do it because they have their own store and account system.

Been setting up my Touch tonight and I have a quick question, since Guardian shows up in SteamVR is there any point in setting up room-scale in Steam? Does it give me anything other than the Chaperone? My space falls under the minimum space requirements for Steam room-scale and I'm trying to decide if it's worth the hassle of trying to make it work.

Yes and no. You only need to set up roomscale in steamvr if you have games that need to know the size of your space (most notably job simulator). Many games simply ignore the setting completely and work identically under room scale or standing. SteamVR doesn't turn on chaperone by default if it detects a rift/touch setup - you'd have to specifically go in and enable it. Oculus's version is active with SteamVR games so I just use that.

I had trouble with room setup tracking my touch controllers but I was able to set it up as standing room only and then in the developer options I just set it to medium size. If you set it to small roomscale it should (might?) work, give it a try.

There is no charge for Steam keys for a developer's own game, even if you want to sell those keys on another service like Humble.

I haven't played with or against kineticist much, so I really don't know for sure, but I think Blackjack is probably the best class. I play anarchist so maybe that's just my bias (I like throwing fireballs), but the guy who keeps kicking my rear end (UltimoBushido) uses Blackjack with dispel censor, tentacles, and I think he switches between imp and spear.

The biggest thing is the potential to punish players when you know where they're going to teleport, and Blackjack is best at that. Her push does insane amounts of damage so if you see a crystal or something or have used something like the cards to force someone off their platform, you can get a good hit when their teleport is on cooldown and there's not much you can do to avoid it. I'm going to try to record some videos at some point and maybe explain what's going on, but a lot of it is just about anticipation and reaction.

It dispels everything. It does damage to summons, it cancels out enemy crystals, kills enemy imps, cancels enemy spears if they're held or flying through the air, gets rid of tentacles, it'll cancel all enemy spell projectiles and spears, and so on, in that large green spherical area based on where the orb you make lands. Edit: lol if they complete their own censor and they're holding it or they threw it but it didn't hit the ground yet, it'll dispel enemy censors lol

Anarchists seem particularly weak to it because a strategy I found effective is to save up crystals and then create a few large skulls all at once to force the other person to be distracted and try to deal with them. It's risky because if they dispel three skulls with the censor you're set so far back.

A fun trick to play on your enemies who like dispelling your clockwork imp: start unlocking the imp and watch to see if they start going for the dispel. If they are, just stop making it. You can even hold the cage up for longer and pretend you're grabbing at the keys. Once you finish your artifact you can't put it away without using it, but you can cancel any time up to them. You can even make a shield first to bait them into it a little more. Laugh as they throw their censor at thin air, and then summon your tiny friend for real.

I will try that strategy tonight or tomorrow. I like it from a psychological point of view because those skulls screaming and slowly coming at you (even if you know you can turn them around) are loving terrifying

Penumbra VR nearly killed me, not due to fear but because near the start there is a hole you have to crouch through and then turn 180 degrees in. Until headsets are wireless, that's a recipe for bloody disaster.

$120 AUD for another sensor? sheeit, I'll wait til I move to a bigger place, or get a little more spare cash lying around.

Surely the tech inside the sensor can't be that super-expensive to justify that, can it?

Was going through the guide to set up the third camera and spotted this:

quote:

Due to potential USB bandwidth issues in most computers with USB 3.0 ports, it’s important that the 3rd sensor is connected to a USB 2.0 port. Having 2 sensors connected to USB 3.0 and one to USB 2.0 is the recommended configuration at this time. Connecting more than 2 sensors to USB 3.0 ports will generally pull too much data through the system, leading to inconsistent performance and/or sensor tracking failures.

The Oculus tracking solution doesn't scale well, it's what pretty much everyone has known from the start. It's just about enough for a small room, but as soon as you start considering commercial applications then things get a little more complicated. Mixed reality could be a problem, pushing even more HD video through the USB bus in addition to all the tracking would cause problems on many configurations. Wireless/large scale installations are also a lot more difficult to implement with optical outside-in tracking.

I can't imagine Oculus sticking with Constellation for more than a couple generations.

FYI you don't need to mount or place the lighthouses high. The main reason they suggest it is that it makes it less likely if someone else steps into the area they won't occlude (block) the line of sight between a lighthouse and the headset/controller. If it's just you in a play space you could even put the lighthouses on the ground.

The key is 1. They don't move 2. Nothing blocks them from the headset and controllers. This is easiest done mounted tilted down high.

I know. I bought some tripods anyways because I figure that gives me the most flexibility but I have a pair of those 6" mini-tripods for GoPros as well.

Generally I troll on the internet because I think it's stupid to talk with strangers and be social with them, but when I checked out Rec Room and Alt Space, I couldn't because instead of just being streaming webcams or text on a screen, it felt like it was actually real people. So that's....something, I suppose. And that's with the current lovely cartoon graphics they both use.
