All y'all saying Social Democracy > Socialism, remember we had a pretty strong Keynesian thing going on and it all broke down over about 30 years and now look at where we are. Also remember that the one thing Capitalism does better than anything else is destroy its opposition. Finally remember that even Social Democracy is guilty of terrible loving atrocities at home and overseas. If you're interested in the best lives for the most people, the only long term solution is the complete systematic dismantling of the global capitalist/imperialist system. Anything short of that will bring us right back to technocracy and predatory, crony capitalism. Thank you for your time. Full Socialism now.

I mean I'm the first one to object whenever someone busts out the "b-b-but the USSR!" objection to socialism, but you can't deny that socialist regimes as we've seen them so far haven't exactly shied away from sending the Red/People's Army in whenever it's been convenient.

I ain't concerned with labels. You can call me a liberal, a socialist, a communist, a son of a bitch, I don't care. If it will actually help people, and more especially help the poor and working classes, then I'm fer it: universal health care, universal basic income, a few heads of billionaires on pikes, free college, the economic freedom for a person to do what they want and not what merely what others will pay them to do, and anything else that will improve the quality of life of my brothers and sisters in this great land of ours. If you're human and you're hurting, that makes us kin as far as I'm concerned. If it helps the rich, gently caress em, they already got and got too much as it is with nothing more than a 'gently caress off' to the minds, muscle, and souls what got them there. Y'all had your turn and you've about ruined us. And goddamn it, we're not about to take any more of it.

The USSR was state capitalist, not Socialist. Socialism is a democratic system where the workers control the means of production and decide what to produce, how to produce it, whom to sell it to and what to do with the profits - as opposed to a few capitalists at the top calling the shots. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sZhJ-74FcR8

Only Obama, a black man who emerged from the best of white America, and thus could sincerely trust white America, could be so certain that he could achieve broad national appeal. And yet only a black man with that same biography could underestimate his opposition’s resolve to destroy him.
