Are there sanctioned debates between DNC chairs-candidates in the past before they're placed by the party?

I think Ellison is all but won at this point but I don't understand what of Perez' stuff you think would cost us the election when he's incredibly similar to Ellison?

I think Perez is mainly the Obama alliance's way to say 'hey we have progressive members too who are good' and avoid being left in the dust, which is fine because they do and shouldn't be.

I do have one completely selfish reason for hoping Perez gets it (I don't want to lose Ellison as my congressman).

I do think, while Perez's policy chops (free trade stuff as reported here earlier aside) and record as Secretary of Labor are solid, Ellison having been an organizer basically his entire adult life is what sets him ahead for this particular job.

True, invoking his name but not having him on the campaign trail should probably be the strategy. Another big critique of the Clinton campaign was the constant looking back to the 90s with rose hued glasses, further helping obscure any vision of the future.

I'm kinda mad he won't have enjoyed the presidency from the tyrannical perspective, while Trump is going to run roughshod over all precedence. Especially considering the glee with which people who defamed him and his family are going to erase his presidency in all but the official photo that they put next to W.

I mean I can't think of any better during my lifetime, which technically includes Carter (though I was far too young to actually pay any attention back then).

I can't really argue that. Yea like I said I think Ellison has it won and Perez is just kinda there for the Obama side to say 'look see we're not against guys like this', but I think either would be fine. I do agree Ellison being an organizer is a big plus on his side, though.

Basically someone with a track record of good and progressive policy or someone with a track record of good and progressive activism as well as a good record of progressive policy. There's no bad option there but yea, one is a stronger choice.

Obama's really loving good on the campaign trail dude, Clinton used to be good but hasn't been as good since. His one real solid thing was his DNC speech for Hillary, Obama's still real fuckin good and should be used before he becomes a sad old man too.

The telecom act of 1996 was a piece of poo poo that played a large part in the mess we're in today. For as many centrist liberal shitheads as there are out there complaining about the sorry state of the media, you'd think one or two of them would realize that all that deregulation and consolidation came about because bill Clinton, et al couldn't stop slobbering over corporate dicks, the fuckers.

And while I'm at it: If TVA's rural electrification was rolled out in the same manner as rural broadband, I wouldn't be posting this because I'd still be in the goddamned dark. We've only just now finally had DSL installed here for three years ago.

haha, as if he's going to leave W's photo up. that's the first thing that goes when he redecorates the white house (the second thing is any piece of crown molding or cornice not currently covered in gold leaf).

The whole Clinton campaign was a clown show in retrospect, but her lack of charisma was super stark when compared to both Obamas. I groaned out loud a couple of times during her nomination acceptance speech.

Also, Chelsea's speech was even worse. How she's even related to slick Willy, I don't even know.
