The Ringer with a long piece on basketball footwork:

quote:

As J.J. Redick told me, “Footwork is the foundation of everything you do on the court, so if you don’t have footwork you can’t play in the NBA. It’s the key to everything.” All the players, coaches, and trainers I’ve spoken with share one common thread: Footwork can be the enhancer that turns “good” into “great.” It can turn All-Stars into legends. We’ll look at some of the modern masters of the artform, starting with the Kobe clone up north.

3204	Shaquille O'Neal

Pretty much agree with this but I'd rather have Jokic over Murray and would probably put him on the same tier as Zing and Embiid. He looked really, really good at the Olympics and is already turning the corner this year. Should be a stalwart big for years to come.

From what I remember from the podcast, Jokic's lack of robust defense (reified in Embiid's case, theoretical but 85% probable in Zing's case) is what keeps Jokic down.

Well that's not entirely surprising considering he's basically options 1, 2, and 3 in the Oklahoma City offense. Think of it like when Allen Iverson was at his peak in Philadelphia. It was no coincidence that his efficiency went way up when he went to Denver and was paired with another quality scorer.
