gently caress yooooooouuuu 2016 Ball joint popped out of the spindle somehow. Could have been worse - I'd just pulled out of work and wasn't even up to 20 on a slushy side street. Damage is limited to the halfshaft & fender, but still, this year is going to kill me if only by stress alone.

clam ache posted:Isn't this the one you just did an assload of work too? Didn't check to see how your balls were doing while you were in there? Yeah, just finished a clutch replacement so I had to - the halfshaft can't come out of the transmission unless you pop the ball joint out so the spindle can be pulled aside giving the shaft clearance. I have no idea what happened - you can't get the pinch bolt in unless the peg is fully seated in the spindle, and then the bolt is supposed to keep the peg seated. When I came around the side of the car I was expecting to find the peg sheared off, but no - its fine. Had my wife bring me my floor jack and a few other hand tools, got the peg reseated while waiting for my father-in-law to show up with his flatbed trailer so we could drag it home without causing further damage. I was really pissed initially but happening this way was much preferable to the wheel going sideways at highway speed - the car would probably be written off if that happened.

I hadn't fired up beamng.drive in a bit and the discussion earlier inspired me. I "built" this track-day special "ETK I-Series" (think fake video game car company's answer to the BMW E30). Started with the manual transmission base model and swapped in the 3.0l six in lieu of the 2.4, stripped out the interior, caged it, and threw on some wider tires. It's a shitload of fun with a G27 racing wheel. There's really not much to beamng right now but it's a ton of fun to just drive around and/or crash into things.

Goddamnit. Just as I'm drifting off to sleep, one of my smoke detectors starts the low battery chirp. The one that drives me loving insane. It's also a battery-only smoke detector, in the bedroom... while the other one is AC-only and in the hall. Sure hope the power doesn't go out before the AC smoke detector can respond if some poo poo goes down, that chirp on the battery-only one would drive me crazy if I left the battery in. Too tired to go buy a new battery tonight (shouldn't be driving right now anyway, took my prescribed night-night pill a little while ago). First world problems and poo poo. kastein posted:but... but... but... a magnetic field is what makes an air core transformer with two copper windings work, too. And cellphone wireless charger pads. Metal Geir Skogul posted:I was honest on my PHA about alcohol and they referred me to ASAP lololol Saw my new doctor for the first time today. Was honest about occasional marijuana use. She immediately told that she'll be drug testing me. Her excuse is "I want to see how much you actually use", I think she's more interested to see what else I test positive for - since after all, MARIJUANA IS A GATEWAY DRUG AND PEOPLE WHO USE IT MUST BE USING OTHER DRUGS, right? I had a drug test a few weeks ago and passed fine aside from something that came up because of a prescribed medication (which I'm no longer on, but it'll probably show up for another week or two). These days, I smoke seldom enough that I can pass a drug test honestly (when I was in my 20s I'd chug a gallon of water and pop some B vitamins to "pass", though now that results in a diluted result, which some places consider to be a fail). I'm not trying to get anything remotely addictive, just need a doctor to help me manage my blood pressure and cholesterol medications. Being honest about alcohol use got a raised eyebrow until I mentioned I'd done rehab and occasionally do AA. But admitting to smoking the devil's lettuce occasionally made her look up from her clipboard immediately. Thanks Doc, now I won't be honest about that in the future. Every other doctor I've ever dealt with just asked "how much/often, and do you consider it to be a problem?". On the upside.. it was close to quitting time for the clinic, and she said if I wouldn't be able to pee soon, she'll do it on my followup visit in a few weeks (to go over the results of my bloodwork, and adjust meds as necessary). The bloodwork is handled by an outside lab, and she didn't check off the option for a drug test, so I figure she's just gonna hit me with the "pee in a cup with a 5 panel dipstick for a lid" bit. randomidiot fucked around with this message at 09:34 on Dec 14, 2016 |
