The stop button functions to kill engine power, but you are unable to restart the engine from the basket. Eh, for years I puttered around every summer in a little boat with a 10hp outboard motor that had a busted killswitch. Usually I'd shut it off by closing the throttle and giving it full choke, richening the mixture until it died. If that didn't work, disconnect the fuel line and let it starve itself out in neutral.

So the service tech that came to work on the dryer unit in our Komori press today might be out of a job tomorrow. Not long after he started working on the unit, he did something that caused a power glitch in the building bad enough that we had to have two guys from the power company come out and work on the breakers. Later on when the pressmen were bringing the press back online, the dryer unit caught fire. Good news is that four or five guys were able to contain it with fire extinguishers so the damage seems contained to just that dryer unit, but the guys from the fire department are fairly certain that the fire was a result of whatever the tech did to the wiring. Good times.

Gobbeldygook posted:It's called "emergence delirium". For a small percentage of patients, mostly middle-aged men with military experience, their immediate reaction to finding themselves disoriented and surrounded by unfamiliar people in a strange room is to start ripping out IV lines and punching people in the face. When this happens they re-sedate the patient and try to bring them out again. The patient usually doesn't remember anything that happened. I had this on a valium lorazapam combo drip and remember little other than pulling the IV and trying to get out while bleeding on the floor. I am a middle aged man I was in the hospital for 6 days total. Didn't punch anyone, just wanted to go back to my place. The funny part is (told this second-hand) I declared that I was Harry Potter and the nurse Princess Leia

My grandma, who is frail and not ex-military, totally had emergence delirium after a knee surgery. Ripped her poo poo out then proceeded to remove the IV's on her neighbors to help them escape the g-men. She's not prone to paranoia or conspiracy theories either.

DiHK posted:My grandma, who is frail and not ex-military, totally had emergence delirium after a knee surgery. Ripped her poo poo out then proceeded to remove the IV's on her neighbors to help them escape the g-men. My mom had a crazy trip after being administered ketamine while waiting for a transfusion. She also lost her poo poo and had to be held down and KO'd again. She is x military and an x cop and did try to fight the Man (though luckily she's old and fat and frail now; in her prime she could have done some damage). The long lasting effects seem to be that she has become a shut-in and only relies on the most insane parts of the internet for all her media and socialisation. She was always a bit crazy but is no longer capable of filtering anything and now just slots every. crazy. thing. into the indisputable fact department and really wants to get to the bottom of this #pizzagate thing and believes the arguments for a flat earth are pretty strong and, no, JoelJoel, you're the one being duped, I just want to explore and learn, why won't you learn with me, also I'm Jewish now and only me a 4 other people know the one true faith and everyone else is a tool of the devil... And so on. Anyway, I don't want to blame her trip for everything crazy she does, but the steep decline into madness all happened shortly after the incident. Right, not in the crazy relative thread. Minor osha content: Had a customer the other day who owned his own company (office remodelling type thing). He was a raging gently caress man in every possible way and treated everyone like his personal servant/an idiot. My apprentice was using a drywall saw to cut a small opening in some drywall. I was in the other room when I hear "what the gently caress, man?!" and watch my apprentice storm off. Turns out gently caress Man thought the drywall saw was too slow a process and went around the other side to bash the opening with a hammer, nearly connecting to my guy's hand with a two handed hack. Though definitely the most osha, it was like the 3rd douchiest thing he did in the 4 hours I was dealing with him. Cocaine Bear fucked around with this message at 05:43 on Dec 14, 2016 |

Mustached Demon posted:$6k fine in OSHA Land's huge. That's their "fix it before someone dies" penalty. Repeated/willful fines go up dramatically past that, though. There was a case here in Australia back in 2014 where a shipping company didn't have a stevedore on deck to direct the prime movers hauling freight off their ships and a guy got run over and killed and another guy had his leg amputated when a driver didn't see them and ran them over. They just got handed a one million dollar fine in court.

The tuna oven death from 2015 cost the company 6mil in total. 3mil went to fixing their poo poo, 1.5 to family, 750k each to attorney and a fine. Their safety manager got a guilty plea for a slap on the wrist felony. In a just world the senior management would get hit with manslaughter and prison time for letting that poo poo fly. If you're curious, dude was fixing tuna conveyor inside oven. Lockout tag out was clearly ignored and dude got cooked alive. Source

Lock out tag outs a system and not just about locks. They ignored it by not having a system in place where the oven man had control over whether or not the oven was operational. He had no business being in there in the first place if it weren't for lovely equipment jamming up.
