I'm leaning towards him noticing that Victor misses skating so he only wants to end the coaching relationship.

drat, JJ choked harder than Makkachin. And worst case scenario is that Yuuri wants to retire with Victor and raise poodles in Hasetsu while coaching Yurio, who insists they're both pathetic and he's only there for the katsudon. Best case is that he's been inspired by watching Victor watch the other skaters, and possibly by reading some dril tweets, because it'll turn out that he's all get on the rink and kick my rear end

I'm not okay with that last line and I can't believe I have to wait a week to see what Victor has to say about it! Presumably they'll have an emotional breakdown at each other before the free skate because Yuri is the man who stole Victor from the world and he should be proud of that! Also congratulations Plisetsky, everything went really well for him so he's not getting much commentary but he deserves it.

I wasn't that shocked by JJ choking because it seemed pretty well telegraphed. He got two golds AND has the highest base score to beat AND his whole FS is a giant masturbation session. More so than the guy who literally comes on the ice. Basically it's a recipe for a fall. And for Yuuri to maybe have to cheer him up or something next episode to show things going full circle I guess.

Holy poo poo, I knew something would go wrong with JJ, but I didn't expect it to go that wrong. Or that tragically. I'm pretty glad to see the parallels between Victor and Yurio in this episode. Since Rostelecom-ish, I've been thinking that he end the show ready to fill Victor's skates, so that sequence was pretty gratifying. Victor doesn't seem too happy about that, though--unlike when he was watching the other skaters, he had a little frown on his face when Yurio skated. I think he's worried that Yurio is going to end up in the same place he did in about ten years, lonely and bored with his success.

My theory is that Viktor decided that it was time for him to hang it up for good while watching Yurio absolutely destroy the ice. Maybe Yuri is misinterpreting that? I have no idea how this is going to end. UGH

I remember reading somewhere on tumblr after episode 9 a theory that Yuri was planning to call things off after the season (based on their reunion, plus a few other things), but I can't find it now. Yuri, just because Victor is watching the other skaters doesn't mean he doesn't want to stay with you. Can't you see how lost he looks when you're not there? ETA: Some people are doing the scoring math and calling shenanigans. JJ shouldn't be anywhere near there with 2 popped jumps and Yurio's score is impossible given his routine. Yuri is dumb but Victor is dumb too. "If you win we'll get married" sounds romantic but it implies that his loved for Yuri is conditional on winning. His SP looked painful this time, I'm guessing that's why. It's all Victors fault, is what him saying.

Jesus, I know I wanted JJ to get knocked down a peg, but I didn't expect it to be so heartbreaking. I love it. The parallels between him and Yuri were fantastic. This is easily the best pure-skating episode and it had plenty of what I love about those - that we see each skater's character really come out in their routine. Each of them does something different and it's all so unique. It's also super wild to be watching this right after the actual Grand Prix Final and realizing how spot-on the aesthetics are. Impressive. Seriously though, I kept waiting all series for someone to have a really bad performance but for it to be JJ and accompanied by those incredible visuals...I'm blown away. As for the thing at the end, I have to admit that while thematically appropriate considering the theme of On Love: Eros, if we get anything less than Yuri and Victor together and married I'll be sad. I hope the two of them sort out their differences and misunderstandings somehow and realize that they've kind of been not opening up to each other like they should have and let's just have a happy ending god drat it. They can split as coach-and-skater but don't let them actually split. Please. I JUST LOVE THEM SO MUCH AND HAVE NO IDEA WHERE THIS IS GOING.

Viktor needs to straight up tell Yuuri "stay by my side, don't leave", because this whole non-verbal communication thing clearly isn't working well enough. Sometimes direct is best, kid.

If Viktor skates Yuuri's FP, which represents his career as a skater, I will lose my poo poo in the best possible way. Yuuri copied Viktor's program to lure him in, Viktor should repay the favor to seal the deal.

Maera Sior posted:ETA: Some people are doing the scoring math and calling shenanigans. JJ shouldn't be anywhere near there with 2 popped jumps and Yurio's score is impossible given his routine. I'm calling double shenanigans on that math For one we only have partial knowledge of what their full routines consist of (and with JJ you get into the area of what was planned vs what was performed) and how well every single element was performed, so there is a lot of assuming going on. If we had full footage that was lovingly animated that would be another story, but we don't. For two, during the kiss and cries, the show pointedly did not show the individual technical and performance scores and just gave us the combined scores (which is really all we need to know). So trying to reverse engineer what they would be is just asking for madness. The judging system is really (intentionally) complex and there are a lot of exceptions and qualifiers and then there's some inevitably bias from the judges that will raise/lower a score, etc etc. Sorry for the rant, these dumb posts on tumblr that people make with the air of absolute authority or with clear embellishment in order to impress new figure skating fans irrationally irritates me. Like yeah the show takes some liberties but it's either very minor (Minami's undone tie on his outfit not being tacked down) or extraordinary but still believable (the scores are higher than you would actually see now, but not so much that it totally takes you out of it). And the creators are big skating nerds who are dedicated enough to authenticity that they (as one example) commissioned professional costumers to design everyone's skating outfits, so seeing tumblrs tripping over themselves to get a smug GOTCHA is obnoxious as gently caress. That said... kurona_bright posted:In the case where that doesn't happen next Wednesday, have this. Thank you, that's a good recc and go for the wedding on the beach, you sappy Russian
