I've been using chocobos to travel at night but that's good to now. Doing the waterfall dungeon is exactly where I am on the story.

You'll also want to finish Cindy's questline - the last upgrade allows the Regalia to drive at night without being interrupted by daemons.

That's less of an issue since you can fast travel between parking spots and not have to deal with demons for 10 gil. Even with the last upgrade, you're still not going to be helped by it when you get off the road, which is where almost every quest actually is. Also you can't finish Cindy's questline until Chapter 8, so you're kinda hosed of you want to do anything before then, unless there's some way to sequence break into the Vesper pool early. My characters are in the mid 40s, and the dungeon for the last upgrade is wrecking my poo poo. Specifically a Naga that drops into a circular pit and constantly Toads everyone

I umbra'd back to the world midway through 13. Should I do more story? I don't want to lock out of side stuff or see the end until I'm done with the world.

Nothing is ever locked off and theres stuff that opens up only on atory completion. Again the only actual missable in the game is a trophy/achievement for beating a late story boss on normal rather than easy.

After I beat it getting to 99 was only another 5 hours of work, and that was just because I'd spent so little time picking up items I had to farm coins. I hadn't completed the last tag quest, Cindy's last upgrade quest, and I was missing three Armiger weapons. I think I was at Rank 5 for Hunts, but not 100% sure there. Getting the remaining stuff done, leveling to 99, and finishing the post-game content was only another 15-20 hours tops. I honestly don't even understand how it's possible to get to 80 hours even finishing the post-game content. 50 I can at least make sense of, but 80?

I never used Umbra in the endgame but I did everything I could before then. I do tend to be slower than most gamers mostly because I'm constantly exploring areas that end up being of no interest usually. I also wasn't very efficient in doing some hunts in that I'd clear a dungeon, then find a hunt there, then have to go back, rinse and repeat sometimes.

I went from 9-10 in maybe 25 minutes or less this morning. This game is probably one of the easier ones to Plat. I think there's only one "difficult" achievement in that you have to kill a post game boss.

Not sure why people taking longer than you to play a game is blowing your mind so much. Especially for a game where you have multiple options for traveling from a to b any given time, one of which is a leisurely car ride while listening to music! I also spend a lot of time just running around exploring and fighting stuff I don't need to for the hell of it.

Augus posted:Compared to other open-world games and JRPGs, the main story is extremely short. Compared to Star Ocean 5 the main story is extremely short, for you were on the main story the entire time in SO5, no real way to step away from it despite side-activities. Really, the entire game of FF15 is extremely short not in time but experienced, perceived length, because every single cutscene and slow-walk-by-force conversation in Star Ocean 5 is unskippable, more frequent than fights in FF15, there is only one pre-rendered bit towards the end where you have the chance to bypass it. One cutscene is 17 minutes long and filled with writing more worthless and useless than the most drab and dull of FF15 sidequests, and there is no skipping past that cutscene that does nothing to add to the experience or teach you anything of value about the world you're in. It's a disaster masterpiece that I recommend people dig out of the bargain bin once it reaches $10 at most ever. It's a game that requires a rifftrax state of mind.
