The Dropzone fauna looks a bit odd, it doesn't really fit with the look of Hawks usual previews. Maybe rendered differently as they are more organic than usual? Different artist? I dunno.

I like the cloudfliers and the new ground asset pic that went out the other day. I'm not entirely sure about the nikkar yet, might be like the Raider where it looks better in real life than as a render.

The huge sprue joins on the noses of the PHR ships are giving me fits. Even after going crazy with a razor and files I can't get them as smooth as I want them. Does anyone have sage advice on that?

I glued them with liberal plastic cement, then sanding stick'ed it down to flush.

I got my kickstarter. However the PHR Leonidas is really bent and missing the lower half. Oh, I guess I'm supposed to use cruiser parts for it? It has no assembly instructions. Anyway, the battlecruiser pieces are bent to hell. Looks like resin? Guess I can try a heat treatment.

Edit: Bam! Got it all figured out. Had to eyeball the picture, but some heat and gravity straightened out the nacelles.

Anyone have build recommendations for Shaltari?

I have:
1 Battleship (i will magnetize for both)
7 Cruisers
12 Frigates

Are the microwave frigates good, because they seem good to me!

A couple motherships are a given. 2-3 depending on how you want to roll.
A pair/triplet of Aquamarines is the best way to use the impel rule, all the heavy cruisers (minus the Jet IMO) are scary. The Basalt is a decent fleet carrier, and shaltari can get max launch assets pretty easily when combined with the battleship. All the cruisers have their place as well.
Personally I would lean towards the Obsidian heavy cruiser and and Amber cruisers.

Microwave frigates are p good, and the general opinion is that the Topaz is better than the Jade. An Opal or two isn't bad either to escort your heavy cruisers/bombers/things that need to go weapons free anyways.

EDIT: For beginning it is worth looking at the suggested "starter box" build as well.

So the meta is settling into 2 or 3 motherships at 1500pts?

Definitely towards 3 I think, if you lose them you just lose. I make a beeline for them whenever possible.

Am building my Avalon-class at the moment, can see myself oathing to paint this soon because it is a stunning model.

I'm not sure on the number of gates, but since they are "free" on the cruiser sprue that's less of an issue until you get games in.

Gut feeling is around the 2-3 per mothership range again.

Bugger me, pics to follow once it's built tomorrow but the Burnthrough on the Avalon is the same length of a bloody frigate.

It is funny how stupid some of these people have become over the Kickstarter, that Hawk has to specifically address claims that are silly. I saw one person claim they were going to throw their pledge into the closet "to rot" because Hawk said "We have a lot of emails to get through, please don't email us multiple times for the same issue." Somehow he took this to mean "don't email us" and is butthurt.

A little bit of a WIP of my Seattle:

Plastics a bit buckled near the nose which I hadn't noticed and it's effecting my painting, will smooth that over with some paints later on to help it. Anyway the blue-grey is basically done now, so I've just got to pick out the Metallics, White Greys, Reds and the flight decks and this thing is basically done.

So I finally received my pledge last week, and i've whipped up a quick test model for a scheme I was contemplating for the UCM. I like the bone/orange color scheme that GW used for some of their new Genestealer Cult models, so I thought i'd try to adapt it here. Not entirely in love with the turrets however.

Edit: I'm not the brightest!

That looks incredible for such few steps! How far are you going to take picking out the bulbs with the turquoise? I really think it looks great with your base color and wash. May have to steal the scheme!

That looks like a really nice take on the studio scheme. I'm sorely tempted to steal it, too. What yellow & what turquoise paint did you use?

I am kinda experimenting...

I used white and grey vallejo primer.
The yellow is Process Yellow ink from Daler Rowney mixed with Pledge Floor Finish (1 drop to 1 drop).
Then its a les bursley's red wash.

The yellow and pledge is so i have a built in gloss coat for the wash.

I am trying to get this down to like 30 minutes per model.

Edit: if you search on YouTube, you can find the game creator painting Shaltari with Yellow and Red wash.

I'm wondering if you should go metallic on the turrets, they do look kinda dark here. Rest of it works for me!

Also another +1 for the Shaltari effort. Good choice with the power core.

Calm Down
I've been trying my hand at bashing together a Scourge battlecruiser, and saw someone on facebook who'd changed the layout similar to what i've now done.

my biggest problem is how to make it look.... bigger, more imposing. the normal battlecruisers have a very large conning tower/bridge and i did consider sacrificing a frigate as it has a similar shape to the kickstarter battlecruiser bits. sadly i can't spare one for that so i went with the regular heavy cruiser bridge. let's see how it looks with more paint on it.

That looks really cool mate. I think the wider approach really works for the hull.

So, being off sick and needing something to distract me from the pain of brutalized guts, I decided to assemble next months oath for the painting thread - including two stations. I'm only posting this as a lesson of why not to do creative projects while sick.

Neither station is finished, but station 1 is a simple and classic style.

For station 2, I wanted to try something different - a solar power plant or long range transmitter, I deiced to put a couple of forward facing solar arrays to help cement the idea. It looked a bit forwards heavy, so I decided to add some docking pylons to the rear. I glued them to the underside, flipped it over and.....

I have apparently created turtle station. I shall call it Turtleus Station, and I shall paint it green. I have come this far, there is no backing out now.

I'm 50/50 on it. To be honest, I don't think the Corvettes are Hawk's best stuff but hopefully will be won over by painted models.

I don't think they are bad, just not blowing me away so far. I would have liked something more wingy for something meant to operate mostly in atmosphere.
