Applebees Appetizer posted:After a couple of lovely refrigerators for us as well, (GE, Kenmore) we are seriously considering going all out and buying a Sub Zero. Yeah they are expensive as hell, but consider that they will most likely outlive you and these new garbage disposable units you would have bought in that span would end up costing more anyway. Honestly that's the best route. Short of buying a commercial grade cooler (True, Delfield, Victory, etc..) Sub-zero or Viking is about the closest you can get to something that's actually servicable, while still keeping the comforts of a home fridge. When I eventually build my house i'm totally getting one of those high end appliances I.E. shelving.

Yeah it seems like the older an appliance is, the more reliable it is. It's like all the manufacturers are conspiring against consumers with disposable crap these days. The newer computer controlled washing machines are a loving joke, good luck with all the circuit board controls, you'll have to pry my analog controlled Speed Queen from my cold dead hands.

I have so far had good luck with all my modern appliances. That being said, they are a hodgepodge of brands, and models that had been available for some time and generated very good reviews.

As an embedded systems engineer, gently caress anyone who tries to sell me an IoT fridge with a goddamn lcd screen, the answer is no. I don't want to have an obsolete fridge when windows 11 comes out, nor do I want to have to install security updates, assuming the manufacturer doesn't abandon the product's firmware support the second they make a newer better porn playing fridge. I don't want my fridge participating in ddos attacks on DNS hosting companies because some idiot wrote and did not secure and maintain firmware it did not need. Cellphones with zero security updates after launch are bad enough, all I want my fridge to do is keep food cold. That is its loving job. If a law is passed that requires the firmware sourcecode and hardware designs to be opensourced by any company that does not provide updates at least every 6 months, sure. Otherwise, no.

I'm okay with having an IoT fridge if its running Android, because then I can probably flash over it and put whatever I god damned want on it. But the average use has no clue about VLANs and IoT gateway security, so you are 110% correct on your stance. kastein posted:If a law is passed that requires the firmware sourcecode and hardware designs to be opensourced by any company that does not provide updates at least every 6 months, sure. So loving pissed. The adjuster assigned to my claim just called and left a VM saying she'd be in the office for 15 more minutes. Called back 5 minutes later, her extension goes straight to VM. This insurance company is a flaming dumpster fire. Her advice in the VM? "You should file a claim through your carrier." So sorry to bother you, I'll just write my car off and cancel the claim because its obviously asking too much for these people to do their loving job.

Hey my 2 year old amplified desktop speakers for my PC are now picking up a radio frequency . It's quite annoying because when I don't have much sound going through them, I can almost make out the radio in the back ground. Is this an easy thing to fix or should I just turf them and buy some new speakers?

I replaced my fridge earlier this year after it had issues with the auto defrost function in the freezer...it would collect water at the bottom because it didn't drain property, leading to a leak that caused over 10k of insurance repairs. But I got a new fridge and replaced almost all of the ugly carpet with pergo flooring so it worked out pretty well in the end.

Insurance fuckery update: called Progressive back, call agent said whoever told me they wouldn't do anything until I paid my deductible didn't know what they were talking about - that only applies if I'm trying to have damages covered by my policy. They opened a claim to have one of their adjusters call the at-fault party's insurance on Monday, so hopefully I'll get some traction.

I still don't understand how you guys get conned into spending thousands on fridges. The Bosch I bought 11 years and three houses ago is still going strong, promoted to garage beer fridge a year ago and it cost me £300 new. When the built-in this house came with dies I'll replace it with a standalone again.

Like the lawyer said earlier up the thread, this is how insurance has always worked. Your premium goes to pay your insurance company to fight other people's insurance companies when they run into you. You wouldn't call the burglar's home security company to come rescue you in a home invasion, you call YOUR security company.

So I've been talking to some idiot dealer about a car im interested in a few hours south of me. I said I'm busy so I'm not sure when I'll make it down to see it. He then offers to deliver to me for $100, and I tell him I'd think about it. So the next day I call him and tell him I'd rather see it first, and that my wife has some business to attend to down there in the next few weeks and i'd just come then. Then the guy goes off on a tangent saying OH GREAT IN A COUPLE OF WEEKS MAYBE MERRY CHRISTMAS....And before I can tell him to gently caress of hes says he's just kidding. Great way to lose a sale idiot.

When the built-in this house came with dies I'll replace it with a standalone again. My basic stainless steel kitchenaid fridge came with my house and was brand new at the time. I didn't need it, or the brand new glasstop stove, but apparently the PO wanted ones with more accoutrements and when I flat out told them no I wasn't going to pay for appliances I didn't want they ultimately just left them anyways. Fine by me, but I really wish they'd taken the stove, I want a gas one but can't justify it. The fridge I truly miss is the old Admiral one that was like most of my dad's first appliances, moved to 6 different homes across 2 countries over the course of 20+ years. It was loud and heavy despite its small size, but built like a loving tank and unkillable. Near the end we put a temperature control on it to use it for lagering and I honestly have no idea what happened to it after we moved from Florida. He used to blame me for the high hydro bill, but I am pretty sure that fridge was the culprit.

Got my ute back. Been sitting in my mates backyard just about two years since I sold it to him on the theory he was going to do the work I couldn't afford to do at the time and actually fix the bloody thing. He never ended up doing anything and offered to sell it back a couple of months ago, and wrote of the remaining money last week as a christmas present, nice oval office that he is . Be a while till she's on the road (Oh god , the rust), I want to do a few things first and I'm debating chucking in a 253 or 308 too so a bit too sort, but nice to have it back.
