automation is inevitable. the only two solutions are 1. banning/punishing automation so that we employ people to do jobs that aren't really necessary just so they are employed or 2. taxing automating companies heavily and redistributing the money to displaced workers. one of these is absurd but relatively easy to do, the other makes sense but implies upending the entire international trade and capital regime that the us has promoted for decades. a bit tricky, but i think 2 will happen eventually. there's not really a true alternative.

comedyblissoption posted:my suggestion is just to not bother with political labels and just have a concrete and specific progressive platform You are wrong. The american electorate just proved that they are nothing but a bunch of drooling idiots who will give a bloviating reality TV star nuclear codes. Platform doesn't matter, branding does. Their not going to buy into your progressive platform if it's got "socialism" stamped onto the front, because they've been in an echo chamber of conservative talk radio all their lives. Stop trying to bring the American people up to your level...they're a bunch of gullible, poo poo-smeared troglodytes who can be distracted by shiny objects and persuaded with weasel words. Come up with a different name for Socialism, or the right wins permanently.

the longest of long-cons: juggaloes being the true vanguard. everybody expects the worst from them, so that's why they can fly under everybody's radar. then, when we least expect it, fully-automated faygo communism arrives.

The problem with 2 is that Republicans will scream that the second scenario is hurting employment because companies would give some of that tax money to workers and unemployed poor people will flock to them in droves as Republicans redistribute that money to themselves and their donors. I love this idea, I just wonder how to get to that point, if it's necessary. Without guillotines.
