OxyContin Boom Is a Gold Mine for This Drugmaker

excerpt:

Purdue Pharma is solely responsible for the current opoid epidemic ravaging America because in the late 90s Oxy was a last resort pain relief for cancer victims so Purdue spent billions aggressively marketing it to doctors as the new aspirin and suddenly this intensely powerful and addictive heroin like drug was getting prescribed for headaches and minor aches. With the FL pill mills prescribing millions of doses per year or more the drug flooded the market and suddenly people who'd never do heroin suddenly experience what heroin users did and once the pills dried up they had to get it somewhere else, from heroin.

So obviously the US clamped down super hard on Oxy prescriptions making it near impossible to get now, so Purdue is looking to cash in by doing the same to other countries. Once Chinese people can buy Oxy at the store and add it to their TCM tea its going to loving wreck the population as everyone is suddenly high on opium again.

Heroin use was going down with the rise of opioids and that implies to me at least it was supplanting an exceptionally dangerous demand that for sure put many addicts on a time table to die in 1-2 years, with a far safer, more manageable addiction that's only mostly dangerous one and frankly if I'm picking poison i would rather have the rx opioid epidemic over the heroin epidemic that is unsurprisingly on the rise after crackdowns on script docs

Yes, the only cultivated species of poppy is the opium poppy, which is where we get poppy seeds from. If you eat poppy seeds you will test positive for opiate use because the seeds contain varying amounts of morphine.

Nice edit btw.

But it drew in a lot of casual drug users who had never thought of sticking a needle into their veins and got them addicted to the opoid high and once the supply dried up heroin was their only alternative. Given how insanely cheap heroin is compared to oxy you can see how that spiraled out of control.

Just one example, but once the FL pill mills starting drying up and oxy got more and more expensive people looked for alternatives and moved straight on to black tar heroin. In Northern VA where heroin wasn't a big deal suddenly in the 2010s the cases started to drastically rise as all the affluent people and rich kids in the area had to find a replacement for their prescription abuse. In the mid-late 2000s there was a spate of heroin overdose deaths in Fairfax county from a bunch of young privileged kids.

In BC there is a massive epidemic of deaths from opiate overdoses due to Chinese fentanyl. It is being put into practically every street drug available (except weed). It is so bad that police have started to carry naloxone so they can prevent people who overdosed from dying before paramedics arrive. Over 600 deaths so far this year. My younger sister was one of the first. :(

its because the fentanyl is getting cut with carfentanil or its just straight up carfentanil being added to the heroin.

carfentanil, for those not aware is an extremely regulated opiate used as an elephant tranquilizer. poo poo cannot even be handled without gloves without loving you up. Countries like the USA limit domestic manufacturing of the drug to 19 grams annually across all manufacturers, yet someone was caught in canada recently with a loving kilogram of the poo poo.

That was always the thing people would say to demonize drugs use. "You don't know what it's laced with!! It could be filled with rat poison and razor blades!" but it never made any sense because dealers don't want to immediately murder their clients.

McGavin
Sep 18, 2012

Drug tests also can't tell the difference between fentanyl and carfentanyl because they are so similar chemically, so nobody really knows how much carfentanyl is out there.

The economy of lacing weed you sell at weed prices makes no sense. But economically it makes a shitload of sense to replace as much heroin as possible with easier to source and lower active dose opioids. It means the cut is harder to detect until autopsy and you're making a fuckload more money

There's a lot of factors involved. Short term vs. long term profits and risk (i.e. maintaining a cultivated customer base in a given area can be much riskier than selling your cut stash and moving on as it gives LEO more time and opportunities to find you). There's also the number of middlemen involved between the drug manufacturer and the consumer. The further away you are from the consumer, the less likely whoever's buying from you is going to stop for whatever reason, especially if they also cut it to increase their own profits.

Should be possible to make a shitload with western style exorcisms. Put beer in your mouth and spray it all over the place while yelling. Loud german marching music should be playing while you're performing. You need to wield some old book and a wooden mallet, preferably with some grime on it. When they ask what it is for, you tell them that it's the HEXENHAMMER. It would be appropriate to wear a necklace with an oversized image of Kaiser Wilhelm II, sort of like the watches that Flavor Flav wears.

In a lot of those cases, the kids have a pretty one-sided view of the CCP. Most of their parents are rich directly because of their connections in the party, so it has been nothing but good for them. They know that there are poor people in China, but since they themselves are happy with how things turned out in their lives, they assume that everyone else must be as well. I know I'm painting with a pretty wide brush here, but there is a massive problem with Chinese citizens taking CCP talking points, and running with them, never looking back, or asking why they are running in the first place. A lot of it comes back to logic, and how it's a semi-alien concept to a lot of people in China in the sense that you come to a conclusion based on observations and facts, not someone telling you and you never questioning it because it would mean both parties lose face.

I can't think of anything off the top of my head right now, but when my wife and I first got married there were a few things that she believed that were obviously not true. Some were medical, some were historical. I didn't try and hammer them out of her, but as she spend more time in Canada she started looking at things more objectively and discovered that a lot of things she took for granted were not true. Ironically enough, Youtube was a great teaching tool as she had access to Chinese content videos that would otherwise have been banned in the mainland, and that sort of opened her eyes. It's not that close-minded people from China are dumb, it's just that they have been exposed to a system that is much more "absolute" in its edicts, and there is much less room for discussion and debate.

Even now, if we have an argument about something she will occasionally try throwing in the "and you lynch Negroes" tactic, and try and prove me wrong on a point by bringing up an instance where I was wrong before, but is totally unrelated to what is currently being discussed. It's as hard a habit to break as our, "western thinking is the only thinking" bias that we sometimes show.

It's basically all the mega mainland money in Hong Kong getting down on their knees and sticking their tongues out for the CCP. Praising the virtues of a free society and market economy at the same time blaming democracy for generating pluralism.

Earlier this year when I was in the US, I lived near a very popular university for Chinese. I used People Nearby and some Beijing girl added me. About a week later she started sending out mass-messages about how people need to get together to protest the fact that the university Taiwan club was having an all-welcome party in one of the student halls. She had photos of herself tearing down the posters, with the caption "Taiwan belongs to China!!!" and a bunch of the bloody knife and skull emoticons. There was no logic to any of it, because she had photos of the posters on her Wechat album and it basically said "Taiwan Student Club Party." Nothing political, just young kids wanting to hang out together. I guess the triggering thing was the Taiwanese flag in the corner of the poster. She daily posted updates about how this party must be stopped and Taiwan belongs to China. The day of the party came and went and there were no updates again, because I am 99% sure her and her friends stood scowling from 300 meters away and did nothing else.

If I were a student there, I'd have reported her to somebody for being a hateful piece of poo poo and used the photos of her tearing down the posters, but I wouldn't even know the first place to start on a campus that big.

Edit: The girl was the typical 1%er and obviously daddy's corruption money was treating her very well.
