The electoral college is bad, and complaining after the fact that you lost to it is also bad, because it makes you a sore loser. You should have said it was bad before the election began, loudly, or tried to do something to change it.

I'm sure she be back in 2020, after it's because of racism and emails that she lost the race, not any sort of bad leadership on her part

Shut up about the electoral college, the only not stupid thing said about it was by Joe at the beginning of this conversation and apparently you all decided not to read it. If you want to get rid of the electoral college, your only possible strategy is ignoring that until you get majorities in both houses of congress and the vast majority of states. Its a non starter unless the dems fix their poo poo first, and wanting to fix it specifically so the dems DONT have to fix their poo poo and can go on making GBS threads all over a huge chunk of the country isnt just stupd and harmful to your own professed cause, its pretty despicable.

bad dems would rather blame the EC than focus on reforming their party and getting rid of very bad leadership.

They also want to block progressives from power since they are afraid of scaring off their wall street banker donor class.

The specific purpose of the electors in the US was/is to make sure that people who weren't congresspeople said who was president, to slightly disempower Congress and ensure a tiny bit more oversight.

The USA was founded and exists as a collection of states. As part of making it work, it was decided that the states should compromise on their relative levels of political power to put them all on a more even footing so that the rest of American history wasn't just a few of the biggest states overruling all over the rest. It's basically affirmative action for states that are underpowered. This is fine and works fine.

The Democrats coming up with a political platform that can win an electoral college majority is relatively straightforward, has plenty of precedent and is totally within their power. Changing the electoral college is a laughable pipe dream on a whole bunch of levels. I don't even know how people are so dense about this poo poo.

I feel grief.

people are still mad that the dems won the popular vote by a pretty wide margin but still couldn't cobble together enough states to win the EC, which seems nonsensical at first until you realize that means the party is incredibly out of touch with america in a geographic sense. only bad dems are arguing for getting rid of the EC, the rest of us would rather reform the party into something that can actually win

However it bears mentioning that its presence is harmful, like many other things that we mention here daily that are harmful elements of our government.

It's cool to be undecided, but maybe the whole electorate should have a voice rather than only the undecideds.

We are all part of this country, and not all of us get a voice - even by vote.

Now if it's merely a case of, well I'm comfortable with that.

That's fine too, but lay the issue where it belongs, that the EC being a slave clause that suppresses votes just isn't that much of a problem for you.

You see simply because it's fine for some people, doesn't mean it isn't harmful.

That is discounting the reality of many people when it's stated that people can't even acknowledge the various ways a system is broken merely because a few people are fine with it.

No, getting rid of the electoral college will totally fix everything such as the fact that Republicans control 33 governorships and 32 statehouses. And that there are 25 states where they control both plus another 2 where they have a dem governor but enough republicans in the statehouse to override a veto.

All of that is the electoral college's fault.

Changing the electoral college is a great long-term goal, but we have many other nigh-impossible herculean tasks to accomplish before it's at all feasible, and by the time it IS feasible we'll also be able to change all sorts of other poo poo that will more directly impact people's lives. What I'm getting at is that talking about it now is basically pointless.
