The NSW Greens branch origins are in the NSW Communists, they have always stood out as the underachievers of state Greens due to that their platforms for elections to the State include freeing Palestine and No Nuclear Power and now Literal Death of Capitalism. quote:

The Greens leader, Richard Di Natale, has hit back at a new hard left group within his party’s rank and file with a stated aim of bringing about the end of capitalism – telling them to consider finding a new political home.

Established in the past few days, Left Renewal’s stated aim is to bind its members in a formal faction system – something that the Greens have publicly rejected in the past.

The new group reflects the anger in a section of the New South Wales organisation over the direction of the party, some of whom have been engaged in a bitter dispute over preselections and policy influence.

The split is between those who believe the organisation who should stay as protest party and those who believe the Greens should move towards a party of government.

Left Renewal’s recently posted manifesto says: “Capitalism is a violent and antagonistic relation between workers and those who exploit them.

“As workers, whether or not we are waged, we experience perpetual violence and this violence must be brought to an end. We therefore fight to bring about the end of capitalism.”

Di Natale described the overthrow of capitalism as a ridiculous notion and said the Greens’ policy platform had been established through a democratic grassroots process.

“The Greens have never had factions and, like the overwhelming majority of Greens members and voters, I will never support going down the Labor route of establishing formal factions within the party,” Di Natale said. “Of course the Greens do not support the overthrow of capitalism or any other ridiculous notions of the sort.

“Unfortunately, there is always a small minority in every political movement who are more concerned with infighting than with working together to advance agreed upon goals.

“If the authors of this ill-thought through manifesto are so unhappy with Greens policies, perhaps they should consider finding a new political home.”

The battle has spilled into the open recently because of the success of two candidates, Justin Field and Dawn Walker in recent NSW preselections who were not supported by the hard left.

But the dispute also came to the fore after the July 2016 election when the former leader Bob Brown attacked the Greens senator Lee Rhiannon, who has traditionally drawn support from the left.

Brown said the NSW Greens party was a “long-term disappointment”, which “lags right behind” and had consistently opposed simple party reforms that the public expected. He said Rhiannon was holding the party back.

“The incumbents in NSW – certainly that’s Lee in the Senate – have given great service but are not hitting a chord with the voters at the moment and we need to move on,” he told the ABC’s 7.30 program.

Rhiannon is currently returning for Germany and was unavailable for comment.

The Left Renewal is taking expressions of interest for membership, which will be decided via a collective decision making process.

None of its members have been named or confirmed as Greens members as yet and, when Guardian Australia asked for comment via Facebook from a spokesperson, the group messaged back, saying there was no individual spokesperson as they were a collective.

But, in unsourced answers via Facebook, the group claimed to be rank and file members unaffiliated with any current or former MPs or senators. It said current and former MPs and senators were not eligible for membership at this stage.

The message claimed there was already a culture of factionalism in the Greens.

“We are a tendency within the Greens NSW which looks to return the party to its radical roots and away from the opportunistic push which places our party’s principles in jeopardy,” the message said.

“Left Renewal will operate within the factional setup that already exists within the Greens NSW. The party already has a culture of factionalism in its local group structure and among staffers in the NSW parliament.

“The difference is Left Renewal are being open about our goals and intentions, and engaging with transparent political concerns instead of double-speak about ‘unity’ that allows very few voices.”

The group invoked the “long history of socialism in Australia” in the foundations of both the Greens and the ALP “and across the world there is a revival in the form of Bernie Sanders, Jeremy Corbyn, Iglesias’ Podemos and others”.

As well as calling for the end of capitalism, the group’s statement of principles calls for the end of artificial borders and global imperialism and it rejects consensus between business and environmental groups to work towards solutions on climate change.

It says: “Solutions to climate change cannot come from green-capital partnerships and top-down market solutions but must come from people organising in their workplaces and their communities.

“We thereby oppose consumer taxes, like ‘cap and trade’ mechanisms, and cross-class compromises with big business and capital.”

Who the gently caress thinks this is a good idea?

Liaryle Shelton is anything but done:

quote:

In the afternoon, following the police statement on motive, Mr Shelton refused to apologise for saying it was an attempt to silence the ACL and connecting the explosion the "incendiary" rhetoric of "extreme left" politicians.

He singled out Greens, such as former senator Robert Simms and serving MP for Melbourne Adam Bandt, and said labelling the ACL "bigots" and a "hate group" could create a "permission structure to people who might be unhinged".

"If someone is a little bit unhinged and they are also hearing language coming from parliamentarians saying we're a hate group, we're bigots, then that is not something is going to be helpful," he said, describing the context of his concerns about ACL staff safety.

Mr Bandt said: "By desperately trying to link this incident with politicians despite the police saying it wasn't politically motivated, the ACL has just destroyed its last shred of credibility. I'm disappointed that Lyle Shelton keeps trying to make political mileage out of this, but it does tell you a lot about the way these people work."

Mr Shelton also rejected that some of his own contributions to debates on sexuality - including Nazi allusions and warnings of another stolen generation - were offensive or incendiary, saying that he was "just stating a reality".

Deputy Chief Police Commander Mark Walters said their conclusion was based on conversations with the man, an ACT local not previously known to police. His injuries prevented further conversations on Thursday but they have spoken with his family.

Their investigation is taking in previous death threats made against the group, which Mr Shelton told Fairfax Media had been frequent in recent times with fraught debates over marriage and Safe Schools.

He said most had been made by phone to the headquarters and some were reported to police. They had acted on one, attending the home of a Tasmanian man.

But wait, there's "balance":

quote:

When the soot settled and the melted rubber had set, it wasn't police chatter or tension that greeted the morning, but cicadas.

With the smell of oil hanging in the air and television reporters crossing to their bureaus , the sight of charred wrought iron and yellow brick sat uneasy among its leafy setting.

Unassuming even for Canberra's unassuming suburbs, Eternity House, the site of the Australian Christian Lobby's national home, sat wounded, its head, Lyle Shelton, shocked.

As he examined his second-floor office - where heat had cracked the windows but left family photos and a framed letter from a child, thanking him for fighting because "a child needs a mum and dad" untouched - he said this was in the context of the abuse the ACL had suffered over the past year.

His personal assistant, the first line of defence to Mr Shelton himself, bore the brunt of that abuse, in the form of angry and hurt words hurled towards the ACL and its stance on gay marriage.

Her office bore the brunt of the heat thrown up from exploding gas cylinders, windows blown in, venetian blinds burned and scorched.

Downstairs, the heat wasn't enough to wipe a whiteboard where the words 'Local priorities" sat front and centre, with Safe Schools, Andrew Hastie and Mark McGowan written around it.

That wasn't the ACL's office, Mr Shelton said, but belonged to a "private tenant", who "prefer to stay out of it". Shortly after the whiteboard was noticed, hands managed what the blast did not, and it was wiped.

It was this "surreal" site, which Mr Shelton used to answer questions on motivation, praying for the driver, who walked one hour to the Canberra Hospital after the van exploded, where he remains in a critical condition, repeatedly referring to the "context" the ACL was viewing the act.

"This is not the Australia I grew up in," he told reporters, with tears in his eyes, he didn't ever think that a body like the ACL would ever be subjected to something like this.

And it wasn't, police have stated, at least not in the way Mr Shelton and his supporters believed at first.

Investigators ruled out political, religious or ideological motivations just hours after the destroyed van was taken from the site.

Mr Shelton is not as sure.

"Obviously I respect what the police have to say," he said.

"I'm not sure how they can know for sure, given the man was pulled from a burning wreck last night. I certainly hope that's the case."

But by early afternoon, "attack" had become "ram raid" for most, with the clean-up beginning and no promise 2017 would be any less messy than the year that went before it.

What a piece of poo poo.

You Am I

Me @ your poasting

Shelton is a well known piece of poo poo who loves to belittle or be condescending to others who have views that don't match his own.

Ask him about topics outside of same sex marriage or Safe Schools, like domestic violence, and see how long it takes him to get back to his favourite topics.

He shouldn't be allowed anywhere near the media and ignored. Unfortunately the ABC still haven't got the message.
