So far it's still just shy of 100 bars, clubs and peripheral businesses have been forced to shut down, some after going strong for over 2 decades and were cultural landmarks. Why? Real estate. It's to the point now where there are only a handful of big places left running, those strong enough to survive this cut and run bullshit, so the new tactic that started last week was to shut down a massive club on suspicion that someone was taking drugs there. Basically now they've carpet bombed the area and now personally assassinating the survivors. All the while, these laws that hosed everything up in the first place, conveniently end their jurisdiction just over the road from a giant casino development in progress. And not to mention the already existing casino over the other side of Darling Harbor from this one, which is exempt from every entertainment and alcohol law that blankets NSW. It will never have to shut it's doors.

We have ICAC (Independent Commission Against Corruption), but guess what, the premier of NSW fired the head recently after it was proven that they were effective, having taken down an opposition MP which has lead to him being jailed for a few years. It seems he has seen this, knew there was a good chance he would be looked at next, and just kicked her off her perch. I can't wait for all this poo poo to catch up to him. This is a govt so in the pocket of developers, the actively defend the notion that a museum they're trying to relocate has less cultural significance than a casino. The moral of the story right now is that the schadenfreude is currently on NSW, especially Sydneysiders. Holding out hope that it'll turn around in spectacular fashion. I once caught my then toddler daughter by her leg, upside down, as she flipped from a bed toward a tile floor. Her face couldn't have been more than an inch from the floor when she stopped.
