Talk of the rules not existing kind of ignores that trump only survived the general because the hillary campaign was stupider than him.

the rules I'm talking about are dumb poo poo like "oh, Trump got into a public argument with a Gold Star family, clearly he has been disqualified, the voters will never accept that"

or, for that matter, "government shutdowns are political suicide" or "surely the GOP can't get away with stonewalling a supreme court nomination for an entire year"

After seeing how Clinton's "experience" fared against Obama's "change" in '08, the DNC as usual decided to double-down on a bad idea.

How was she even the most qualified anyways? LBJ and Buchanan had wayyy more experience than her. It's a dumbass self absorbed thing to say no matter what tho.

Did everyone read that Daily Beast article about how Nomiki Konst said Bernie volunteers tried offering their help in rust belt states and the HRC campaign basically said "TV ads are effective enough"?

poo poo gets me tight. If Hillary and especially her crew could've pulled their collective head out their collective rear end, we wouldn't be condemned to 4+ years of loving Donald Trump. Every time I think about it I get hot.

Herbert Hoover was the first president to never hold elected office or high military office.

He's in great company.

iirc Trump is the first to never hold any government office.

Chester A. Arthur, proud son of Vermont*, never held elected office. His only government experience prior to being elected Vice President was as Collector of the Port of New York, which was the most important civil service job in the country, but an appointed position. His military service included appointed positions in the New York militia and he never led units or saw combat. Technically he was elected to be Vice President before serving as President, after the assassination of Garfield, but he held that role for only a few months during which time he refused to travel to Washington because he didn't want to be seen as taking over while Garfield was still alive and suffering from his wounds.

He's our least qualified President... for another month at least.

* Also, our first birther President! There were rumors that Arthur had been born in Quebec rather than northern Vermont, which would have disqualified him from being President.

If you were tasked with selling Clinton to the public, there's not much that could be used beyond idpol or a superficial listing of her resume. Charisma and sincerity in the "most progressive platform in history" were out, especially with her touting Kissinger, finance assholes, and Republican endorsements. So it's not surprising the DNC polished that electoral turd with a sweaty desperation that became itself a problem in the eyes of the Democratic constituency.

When Lovitz joined the cast of Newsradio as Hartman's replacement, he and Dick got into an argument in which Lovitz said, "I wouldn't be here if you hadn't given Brynn coke in the first place." Lovitz eventually apologized to Dick for the remark.[47] In early 2007, Dick approached Lovitz at a restaurant and said "I put the Phil Hartman hex on you - you're the next to die."[48] At the Laugh Factory, Lovitz demanded an apology from Dick, who refused and accused the comic of blaming him for Hartman's death. Lovitz then smashed Dick's head into the bar.[48]

You thought Clinton's "Pokemon Go to the polls" was bad? Kerry would shoehorn in terrible pop culture references to shows like The Sopranos and The OC (this was 2004) in his speeches and it was very obvious he had no idea what those shows were. Also he used Trump's "You're Fired!" from The Apprentice because irony hates us all. Kerry always talked like he never met another human before.
