i wasn't surprise that bernie lost the primary, i am not confident that he would have won the general, and even if he had i question if the dems in congress would have worked with him to accomplish much, let alone the GOP

Though the pedant in me is forced to agree with libertarian dude that, in the traditional story, Mary and Joseph weren't refugees (unless travelers who can't find a hotel room count now). On the other hand, they were only in Bethlehem in the first place because the oppressive government dragged them there for a census for taxation purposes, so they probably do count, by libertarian standards.

Anyway, my point is that Jesus would have won. Or Bernie would have been crucified. One of those.

Well Jesus did win and Bernie was crucified but like any badass socialist messiah he came back from the dead to be the spiritual leader of a powerfull movement.and im guessing the romans in this analogy are the Hilary suporters or something

had he somehow managed to win the primary it would've meant the clinton wing and therefore the dnc's organization was even worse than it turned out to be in the general

which in turn likely would've meant their ability to do gotv for sanders would've been dogshit, and that's with being generous and assuming the party would've actively supported him

on the other hand how much that would've mattered is up for debate since he likely would've kept at least some of the otherwise reliable dem votes trump poached, and maybe have attracted otherwise disinterested voters

gotv is irrelevant at the national general level. Obama didn't beat his polls because he had some secret weapon; he won because polls were using lovely lv screens that excluded his energized base of low-propensity black voters. there's not a huge portion of the population who will tell a pollster for whom they're voting, pass the screen, and then not show up to vote unless they get four phone calls three door knocks and six texts to remind them. gotv is a pretty good tool in the primaries tho, where you can laser-focus soft delegates and where you have a lot more room to grow the primary voter base as well as remind them when and where the primary is and when and where to register for it

i think part of the problem is the sort of 'death' of politics, or rather its transformation from a conflict of ideas into a kind of game played by people with money

there's no vision to it, it's just endless focus groups, 'GOTV' campaigns, marketing ploys and brand management

it's the commodification of politics

I don't support "open" primaries, but I do support "register as you enter" style primaries.

But then again I have some decidedly unpopular views on ideal democratic processes like prefering specific caucus variants over doing primaries at all.

campaigning on a national scale has always been about branding. We are consumerists. It's just become so egregiously and blatantly obvious these days.
