I think it was in the AMA thread about Nuclear power that one of the guys who actually works in a plant said that the radiation levels that your average news station talks about are incredibly misleading, and they will sometimes intentionally use the wrong units to make things look much worse. Also you'd pretty much have to go to within a km or less of Fukushima and start kicking up dust and huffing it for a few months to have a chance at a slightly higher incidence of cancer 20 years down the road. The reason the exclusion zone is so massive around the plant is primarily to avoid court cases for anyone who happens to get naturally occurring cancers and blaming it on the incident.

To answer your question MM depends from your frame work. For white people Interacial is black and white. This most tolerated in the porn industry. I spent some time in Asia and most people their viewed interacial as anything being their race plus not their race. the American idea of whiteness is alittle more flexible. Thought in this thread many pages back some mentioned how their is a large Japanese population in brazil and how japan thought they could import these 3rd generation Brazilians/Japanese and they would fit right in, They didn't. I would love to read more about that.

I have a lot of friends who grew up on Oahu, where being half asian half white is super common, and I've noticed a few cases where it caused some emotional issues, but they required a specific set of circumstances. Usually the pattern was white military dad who was really racist but married an asian woman anyway due to horniness or loneliness. Sometimes the mom was "local" asian that spoke pigin, sometimes they were more FOB. Then they divorce. The kid bounces between custody of each parent, and the parent talks poo poo about the other to the kid. This is not so uncommon in divorced kids of any race, of course. But here's where race gets into it: Each parent attributes the failure of the marriage to racial reasons and tries to brainwash the kid to hate that race, not realizing that they are basically making GBS threads on 50% of their kid's heritage. They don't care, cause they're blinded by hate. Dad says, "[asian ethnicity] are terrible people. They're weak/greedy/untrustworthy/subhuman/etc." Kid has to listen and agree to gain approval from racist dad. Mom says, "White people are the worst, so awful!" or if they're local, "Fucken haoles are poo poo!" Half-haole kid has to listen and agree to gain racist mother's love. Then they internalize one or both points of view. This is a recipe for a very damaged individual. The exceptions tend to be pigin-speaking psuedo-Hawaiian local boys who discard both racial identities and pretend to be Polynesian instead. Hawaii might be multicultural, but it's full of racist people and I wouldn't want to live there.

My grandma described my dad's relationship when he was dating my mom as "interracial" because she's central european rather than a full WASP. I've heard people say "interracial" for whites and light skinned south americans, and certainly for asians. What trips people up is like a Japanese dude and a Filipino lady, what that's not interracial how can they be facing any problems they're both "asian" ! Also I see a ton of Asian dudes with white ladies, that always makes me happy because it makes those pathetic dudes super mad or jealous. It's 99% of the time a dude born here though that's good looking by western standards, no one wants to date actual born-in-china men.

There are a ton of successful people I knew growing up that are Asian males that succeeded in their fields. I'm not even sure I agree about the born-in-China man part. I think people who have been socialized in modern China face a significant disadvantage when it comes to dating in the west, but it's not like anyone actually wants to not date them because they are Chinese. It's like there are super goony anti-social people everywhere. Being an Asian male does not mean you have to be a certain way. Work out, develop yourself, read books, have hobbies, and you can clean up just like any other human who works out and works on improving themselves. It may come as a major shock but a lot of good looking girls in bars don't like dudes who spend 100 hours on Reddit complaining about not hooking up and thinking up strategies for MMORPGs. My old roommate in China was a dude who was a 30 year old virgin and always complained about never getting girls because of a receding hairline and the fact that he one time was diagnosed with acute aspergers. No, that's not the reason you aren't getting past a first date, it's the fact that you never work out, shower every other day, and binge watch anime or binge play video games. Stop using one random defining trait as a crutch for why the world sucks. Are there racist people out there? You bet ya, there always will be. There are people when I was in college that didn't like the fact I had a beard and long hair. Some people will judge you the first time they see you, but it's a small percentage if you're like a normal person who can socialize in a social environment.

It would be interesting to know what percentages of marriages on the mainland are actually a result of two people dating and getting married of their own accord, and what percentage are a result of parents arranging everything or getting a matchmaking agent to do it. A lot of the guys I knew in China were in the latter camp, while the ones who were still unmarried were either going about it the wrong way (un-showered, doughy goons) or they just assumed their parents would take care of it. I think all of my wife's cousins (but one) had arrangements made where they were introduced to their current spouses by their parents or through an agent (also arranged by their parents).

It's too expensive now and everyone in my family has left except for one. I love the place, but will probably never go back in this lifetime. ----------- I haven't posted about any crazy people for a little while because I haven't IRL met anyone new that is crazy. Just normal people. I did match with some girl off Tantan a bit ago that lives two Km away from and me and it was like this: Me: "Hello, how are you today?" Her: *Cat photo* Me: "What?" Her: *More cat photos* Me: "What do you mean? Her: *Photo of her holding a cat* Me: "Okay" When she finally got around to writing, she told me she loves cats. REALLY???? She said she took stray cats from the street and fixed them up and got them adopted by people. That's all good and noble, so I asked her how many cats she had in her shelter. "It's just my house, it is not a business or pet shop. I have eleven right now, and more staying with my friends." Oh, cool. Eleven cats in a tiny Chinese apartment where the resident probably has the windows shut tight because it's "cold" outside right now. My eyes started watering from the cat piss stench seeping out of Wechat. If the conversation hit a lag (because of cats), or I'd message her later, she'd go back to responding with cat photos. Most of the time she communicated using animated cat stickers, cat photos, cat this, cat that. I thought she was cute, so I was trying to put my e-moves on her. She couldn't meet me outside, she had to take care of the cats in her spare time. She didn't feel lonely at night, because cats. She had nothing else going on in her life except cats and sitting at home with cats. She said I could come meet her at her house. I had no intention of that, because I could tell a cat in her presence would negate any attention she would have on me or our supposed conversation. The thought of banging her on a bed full of cat hair with five litter boxes in the next room made me gag. I said she could come to my house, but... cats. I told her I was very allergic to cats (which is actually true). The chats had been total poo poo already, but I thought I'd end it there. As expected, she stopped talking to me once she learned that. I don't know why someone is using a dating app for humans when it's obvious she don't need no (hu)man in her life. Cats will do just fine for her. I sincerely doubt any dude is going to put up with her hobby for long. Toxoplasmosis is a hell of a drug. Here's some proof: I would post the photo she sent me of her photoshopped to look like a cat, but that would dox her too much.

So for the past few months I've been working for a lady in Beijing to assist her daughter in getting accepted to a US university. The kid is pretty smart and has done a lot of extracurricular activities, my main job has been to help revise and edit her essays along with some advising on completing the applications. For some reason the family was super worried the kid wouldn't get accepted to any universities so they applied to over 20 (ridiculous, since she's already been accepted to one and has been offered a $27k/year scholarship). Anyways, after months of essays and revisions, I get the news that her high school is refusing to send out more than 7 letters of recommendation and transcripts for the girl. Initially the school said that each student was only allowed a limited number of applications, but they couldn't show that written anywhere. Eventually they admitted that sending out too many applications somehow negatively affects their reputation or some such bullshit. I assume since universities keep records of how many students from a high school apply to them, the high school doesn't want there to be a lot of "applied, not accepted" stats out there. The mother had a meeting with the principal, and told be she basically had to agree to the terms to help the school save face, despite the fact that their first priority should be the student. I'd be pissed about all the wasted effort I put in, but right now I just want to take a baseball bat to face culture. Icing on the cake was the mom telling me "it's ok, you're a foreigner, you just wouldn't understand."

Haier posted:LOL, you got FACED!!!! Really the funniest thing about these applications has been the process itself. The mother is the VP of the university I work at, and instead of spending big bucks on having a third-party service do her daughter's applications, she assembled a team from the university including: two of her former PhD students, the director and assistant director of the International Office, and myself. She has also sent her daughter's essays to other professors to look them over, and has grabbed various other IO staff to help as necessary. And we've had several hour long meetings several times a week during working hours to finish the applications and essays. Of course, she's planning to quit her job soon, so I guess it's her last "gently caress you" to the school. The meetings are seriously soul crushing though. Imagine having a meeting where you have a 10-minute discussion on whether or not to check the box that says the applicant is an international student (she's not, she was born in the US). The process also demonstrates the lack of imagination and knowledge of the university system too. For example: the girl wants to study biology, and is interested in Alzheimer's. In one essay I mentioned a few professors at a university doing Alzheimer's research, but they happened to work in the department of chemistry and biochemistry. So what do they decide to do when they see that: why, change her intended major to chemistry, of course! Because changing her intended major is a far simpler solution than finding different professors for the essay, or acknowledging that she will be able to take chemistry classes as a biology student, etc. I've pretty much given up on arguing over anything anymore.

Is it because they don't understand the system or because they will lose face if you "correct" them. The international student thing I can see giving them problems remember she is Chinese it doesn't matter if she was born in America she is Chinese how can she be American, she is one of us. etc.
