It's the AI chat thread, a place where the coolest dudes on this bad comedy website come together to rant about life, not work on their cars, and be genuinely kind and earnest to each other in dark times. Also there's dick jokes, boozechat, whatever the gently caress. Let's talk about my bike. Got the chain and sprocket replaced and holy drat it feels like a whole new machine. Maybe when it's not dark out I'll actually be able to ride more than a mile, but now that it's not slipping in top gear I can actually ride long distances. Will this be the year that I finally stop being so fat? Probably not, but who knows!

Hooray for 2017, probably? Maybe not? Replaced the rear sway bar bushings, endlinks, and shocks on my sister's car yesterday. loving sway bar endlinks were so rusty I machined little circles in those nice new GRIPLOKKS I got from BulkVanderHuge for AISS, but they did the job!

Sounds delish. Pork that's been smoking for hours upon hours is heaven. What are the New Years traditions people here do? Ours is pretty much now, and has been for about the past 10 years. Instead of going to a house party and getting pie-eyed, we've been getting together with the same friends. Evening starts out with a great dinner, typically steak or prime rib at the Keg, and then go over to either of our places (they live in Winnipeg but have family to visit here) and play cards or something similar. The best part is catching up on stories from the past year as they are both teachers (well one is a school principal) and the true train wreck tales of humanity are fascinating. Just buy the one you want, the couple grand difference you might save in 'being frugal' or whatever isn't going to be worth the time you don't have an E9x M3, and having The One You Wanted counts for quite a bit. Like the artist formerly known as meatpimp said, $40k is probably around what you should be expecting to pay. Also I don't know about Utah, but in California you have to pay sales tax on used cars, so don't forget there'll be a surprise $4k or so bill on top of your purchase price if it's the same there. When I got mine, the seller and I had decided on a rather reasonable price for what was essentially a brand new car with 16k miles - and shook on it - then as he's rummaging for the paperwork in his kitchen drawers 30 seconds later, he dropped a grand off the price because why not. I doubt EAG will do that, but - who cares. You'll have the E9x M3 you actually were looking for.

Having my new snow tires mounted right now. I had previously been quoted like $60 at Les Schwab for it, and went in there, guy got all pissy that i bought my tires online and said it was going to be $160. I have a wholesale acct at tirerack, so i don't really have much reason to pay retail at a shop. Brought them to Firestone. 59.99. jamal fucked around with this message at 22:05 on Dec 31, 2016 |

My wife and I had been doing a spread of appetizers for just us, drinking and hanging out until midnight. Except this year she's already on vacation at her parents', and I'm catching an early flight out. So I'm going to be boring and old and in bed early. Also fighting off a sinus infection, so probably no drinking on my part. Woo.

My local Firestone will give that Tire Rack installation price if you bring them any new tires to mount on bare rims (and ask for the discounted installation). Best price going. The Tuffy and Goodyear by me are both close to that $160 mark. The General Winter tires are very good. I have a set on my wife's Juke right now. Not nearly as squirrely on dry as Winters used to be, but in the snow, they are unstoppable. Good choice, especially for the price.

My 190e's lazy starting has deepened into a 15-minute stumble fest before *something* warms up properly and it's OK. I got stuck in London yesterday because of it. Replaced rotor, wires and plugs today, no better. It feels very similar to when my voltage regulator last shat the bed. Perhaps the one in the new alternator is poo poo, and it's compounding with an underlying K-JET/CIS starting ballache. I'll replace the VR with the old one I rebuilt at work, find a decent dizzy cap, then I think i'm going to pay Kent Bergsma for his 2.5hr video on CIS starting troubleshooting: https://mercedessource.com/store/gas-engine-spins-won%92t-start-video-class-kent-bergsma I started to make a list of everything i've repaired or replaced on the 190e but got a bit down about it! The amount of work i've put into it it's got to be one of the best pov-spec 190s in England... meltie fucked around with this message at 22:44 on Dec 31, 2016 |
