nachos posted:Is the witness worth it? I love puzzle games but a 25 hour game feels excessive. I burned out on talos even though I really enjoyed that game. The Witness manages to remain relatively fresh all the way through because you're constantly building a puzzle vocabulary and mixing it up in interesting ways, plus all the new areas you unlock are at the very least aesthetically interesting and narratively intriguing. Not that there's any significant narrative to speak of, but there's enough there for the player to create their own explanations and back story for everything. With Talos you'd pretty much seen everything the game had to offer, mechanically speaking, about a third of the way through, but in The Witness you're always learning something new, and I think that was the key difference that kept me going until the end. Like that other poster suggested, I'd really try to avoid looking up play throughs. Building an understanding of the puzzle logic is the game's primary mechanic, so if you rob yourself of that then the game's just going to feel a bit pointless. By all means look up a solution if you've been staring at a puzzle for 3 hours and are just about ready to stick your head in a blender, but this isn't really the sort of game you should be watching someone else play before you tackle it yourself. Take advantage of Steam's refund policy instead -- if the game hasn't grabbed you after 2 hours it never will, but I suspect if you were into Talos then you'll be into this game too.

So, Project Cars vs Assetto Corsa. Which game has the better single player mode, and handling model when using a controller? I really liked Forza 4's single player. Does either game have anything comparable?

FWIW I crashed out of Talos after three hours after getting frustrated with the finicky environment stuff, but am currently doing the end game of The Witness. You should just try it out. You can easily do the first main section of the island within refund time (You create a giant beacon at the end of it, you won't mistake it) and if you like it you will like the game. I loved that first section but still consider it mid-tier compared to other parts of the game. Also the second main part (desert) is the worst in the game so feel free to go explore or whatever instead of doing it.

How are the truck simulator games with a PS4 controller? How are the DLCs for Euro Truck Simulator 2? Gonna spend ~$20 more on the sale and trying decide between American Truck Simulator, Euro Truck Simulator 2, or Salt and Sanctuary. Just got a PS4 controller and want to make sure it's a game I won't need to use the M+KB.

EightDeer posted:Looking for thoughts on a second load of games from the sale: Brigador: Hell yes. It's the best isometric mech simulator you'll ever find. Game plays as a neat combo between being fast and powerful - but also being super fragile. You have to be slow and methodical and careful, or else you will get swarmed and die. It has a ton of content - missions with different loadouts so you can try puzzle-box type approaches to levels, then freelance where you pick your own loadout and assault different maps, trying to escape alive (and with a lot of cash.) The one problem with it is that the controls are very hit or miss - they added in a twin-stick shooter style control scheme, but original is best - and I'll admit that took me a few hours to get the hang of. It becomes natural after that, but you have to work at it. And it has one of the best soundtracks I've had the pleasure of listening to in recent years. Please enjoy it! Disgaea: Charmingly anime srpg - I'd rec this game, but be patient as it involves some grinding, and the gameplay is about learning how to break it wide open so you can become unfairly strong in all circumstances. The story mode is beatable without hours and hours of tedium, but those post-game things.....hoo boy. On the other hand, Phantom Brave is also on Steam, and has more creative mechanics and a better story, so pick whatever seems more appealing.

Are there ever any better deals on Witcher 3 DLC? I've barely started the main game, but I'm pretty sure I'm gonna want to go full completionist on it. That's going to take quite a while, so I may have time to wait for a better deal to roll around.

I get that this is late to ask but how good is FFX's story, characters, and setting? Is it good for JRPGs/anime, or legitimately good? For reference my favorite western RPGs are Dragon Age and Mass Effect, and my favorite JRPG is The World Ends With You.

For reference my favorite western RPGs are Dragon Age and Mass Effect, and my favorite JRPG is The World Ends With You. It's legitimately good. It's half pilgrimage/roadtrip, half tragedy, and thanks to Tidus there's this interestingly jarring element as he's the literal fish out of water barging in on this sacred mission. ...Er, the story in a nutshell: Tidus the blitzball star gets thrown forward in time thanks to magical bullshit, so he tags along with Yuna and pals as she goes on a quest to save the world. Cue Tidus trying to befriend everyone while trying to figure out what this quest is about. It's got interesting characters, an interesting world, and I quite liked the gameplay - some of the best in the FF series, in my opinion. The voice acting is, uh, decent at best, and it's clearly a PS2 game, but still - give it a shot. And for the love of god, don't get hung up on the sidequests. Those are the weak point.

I don't know how long left we have on the sale, but you should definitely consider picking up Binary Domain. It's $3.99 and I've been having a blast with it. You'll want to buy the collection, though, the one with DLC bundled in because that's the thing that's discounted, not the base game. http://store.steampowered.com/sub/27824/ Here's a good video talking about what makes it so good, might have spoilers but the big ones are telegraphed so you can skip them: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j66cTc95XK8

Well, quite a good christmas sale season for me this year, despite mediocre discounts I stayed below my self-imposed 50€ mark and got some good games: - Dying Light (my coop group all bought this as our next title to play so yay for more coop) - Ori and the Blind forest - Abzu - Need for speed (on Origin to satisfy my tuning and racing urges) Total paid 47€

If you do buy the DLC later I'd prioritize them thus: Tempest (naval combat hugely changes the game) Shifters (being able to manipulate the winters is a fun quirk and the new race are interesting) Shadows (espionage is cool, but not essential. The Forgotten are a lot of fun though) Guardians (titular guardians are a mixed bag, it's the game's equivalents to wonders that make this one useful) After Tempest the other three are kind of even though. The other two DLCs add music and more quests.
