I totally meant to post this but I forgot to and I think the subreddit missed it as well but there's a WR named Nyheim Hines who plays for NC State and he had a big play in their bowl game like a week ago and the announcer threw in a "hit 'em up with the Hines" line. I'm sure the Venn Diagram for Stern fans and people who watched that game is amazingly small, though.

Gary's book was so awful. I read it early on before it was more common knowledge that it was lacking in Stern stuff.

Eh, I kind of liked it. Not very funny, but you weren't expecting that, were you? It had a good narrative: growing up with an insane, narcissistic mother prepared him for dealing with Howard.

Kelly posted:it was lacking in Stern stuff. I feel like this is a great pun that must be used a lot regarding this show. EDIT: Anyway, I kind of relate to Gary; I grew up and my 'best friend' was a controlling, short-tempered, quick-talking guy that Howard reminds me a lot of. He's the kind of guy that if he found out something funny and embarrassing about me, he'd make fun of/goof on me around other people for a really long time. So whenever Howard starts digging into Gary and arguably stuff that doesn't even need to be mentioned, I feel Gary's pain and annoyance. Oh man, he took the train to work because his wife needed the car, holy poo poo, what a gently caress up EDIT 2: Listening now to his Desert Island/Jukebox/Still Holds Up list, and man, I'm once again reminded of Gary's insecurities. When he mentions 'Thriller', he does a weird, fake bully voice. "I know what you're saying; 'Nyah, Michael Jackson... pussy!' but this record still holds up." Like... dude... it's Thriller. It's ok to like or love it. It didn't sell millions and millions of copies for nothing. And even if it didn't, who gives a poo poo? I swear, he is WAY more terrified of being thought of as gay or effeminate than Artie ever was or is. Rupert Buttermilk fucked around with this message at 15:38 on Jan 3, 2017 |

I'm pretty sure that was a 'remake'/homage to something that was described in Private Parts (the book) that originally took place in the 80's or early 90's, when Gary was Boy Gary and expected to handle intern-situations like that.

There are two popular morning shows left in Boston. Loren and Wally Show, on the classic rock station. Their billboards have the tag line "Very Funny", but they are NOT. Bland milquetoast show for aging boomers, nothing funny. The Hillman Morning show on WAAF is actually funny sometimes, but it's politics is are pure Trump. It's like 40% Stern Show, 30% Rush Limbaugh, 20% sports show, and 10% lovely morning zoo.

Morning radio seems like a real cut throat gig. Like, dudes get canned one day and a new show comes on the air the next with no mention of the previous hosts. As if they never existed.
