They just did an engine "change" where they have moved to Amazon's Lumberyard game engine, which is basically CryEngine 3 that Crytek sold in a desperate bid to not go under as that company isn't paying it's staff. Amazon basically upgraded it to 3.8 in an attempt to cash in on Stingray/Unity's model of game engine for all. It cost them $50 million. This news was handled with a hash of a PR campaign where it was revealed to have been done back in Feb 2015, and snuck in by stealth under the cover of Christmas. The main game of Squadron 42 is nowhere to be seen beyond a few scant screenshots and rumors of a prequel to get something out the door to state backers. It's not helped by rumors of key actors leaving the project, mo-cap data being completely useless with CryEngine and other optimization issues that refuse to iron out owing to the overall developer's experience waning as the turnover rate is massive given they rely heavily on eager cheap students who don't know better over experienced CryTek devs, of which there are very few many who want to get far, far away from the dumpster fire that's Crytek.

Somehow I managed to avoid any of the Kickstarters that turned out to be scams or were just managed so badly they failed. Don't remember why I didn't back Star Citizen because on its face it would be cool to see Chris Roberts actually deliver on what his stated goals for Freelancer were, but obviously that's not happening. I considered giving the Neal Stephenson backed Clang money but thankfully didn't. Confederate Express looked kind of cool but it was pretty obvious that at best they were over-promising. In that case it turned out to almost completely a scam and they made international news when they refused to pay the rent on their AirBnB, and then were going to sue the owner claiming that hard water destroyed their espresso machine. From the line on he website it sounds like they torment people like my girlfriend's sister, 22 year old lesbian who refuses to learn to drive or get a job. When she needs money she just goes to Tumblr and makes a post about how hard she has it and how rough her life is and people donate her gift cards or cash. But then that other poster said they pushed someone to suicide and that is definitely not okay.
