Trump created jobs while Bernie has never even held a real job! How can he expect to help you, White Man, when he can't even defend his mic from Black Lives Matter?

The point is that the attacks don't have to even be true, they just have to be sexy and/or racist. Right wing media is more powerful than you think.

It's not about Scandal Points, and it's never been about Scandal Points. It's about the narrative. None of those dovetail as nicely with Trump's campaign as the "lying crooked Hillary is a big gov elitist globalist stooge" narrative as exemplified by That Email Thing

If they tried to make a thing out of the rape essays, and it looked like it was working, that's the perfect time to drop "grab 'em by the pussy." Ok, Bernie made some weird analogies in college, whatever, Trump is a literal rapist. That's not a narrative-winner, and so that's not the issue that's gonna sink Bernie.

When both candidates are outsiders loathed by The Establishment, Trump can't use that narrative anymore and is suddenly hobbled by the fact that he's Your rear end in a top hat Boss, same as Romney was. There is not really any dirt on Bernie that can counter that.

that's not at all how it works though. Trump's big thing was 'the government has abandoned you and won't help you' with a nice sprinkling of 'and those goddamn minorities get all the government benefits'. Sanders would have just as hard a road to get over because all his plans involve saying that the government isn't the problem it's the people running it that are.

"Change" isn't some universal thing, most of Trump's voters were told by a white nationalist movement that those goddamn (((globalists))) want more of your money to spread around (and you know who it gets spread to) and they use evil regulations and all to keep you yes you right there from starting the next Walmart. Trump's not anything special, he's a generic hyper capitalist with a heavy coat of generic white nationalist paint.

If it came down to people who think their wallet would be best served by the government getting completely hosed vs people who think their wallet would be best served by the rich getting taxed more and the personalities involved were Trump and Sanders I like those odds. Both of them offer easy scapegoats and argue against them effectively. If it comes down to a battle of demagogues, the one who can also depend on California and New York and doesn't have a toxic personality should win.

yea remember when Clinton lost California and New York?

I have no idea what that last bit means, but even without that, and without diving into primary arguments, Bernie was a really fast advocate for Clinton as soon as he lost officially. He was out there being a demagogue and people didn't care.

Like, I get that here on the internet revolution the response of 'YEA HE'S A SOCIALIST WHAT OF IT' is super cool and accepted, but the areas we're talking about winning have spent the past 50 years being told that any social programs are actually government plots to give hard working Real American money to gay illegal aliens for abortions. Trump's bullshit 'I'm a good business boy who will let business do whatever they want to my butt' is the solution in that world.

Trump's voters constantly cited his business experience and all, you can't just call this a 'change' election, it was also a huge 'pro-business' capitalist election that he won on.

It's because admitting Bernie would have won would involve them coming to the sefl-realization that they were wrong and people like not a step and lowercase were right, something that can't exist in their carefully constructed worldview.

Being a dirty socialist with actual plans to help the working class and actual conviction is more attractive to working class voters than being neoliberal trash that offers no real hope. Democrats don't win national elections the same way as Republicans. We don't win spewing negativity and smears without motivating voters positively to vote what we can do to help them once elected.
