Bad Dems on Nov 7th: Trump CAN'T win, he insulted every demographic republicans need to even stand a chance! No one cares about right-wing "scandals". Demographics are destiny! Anyone could beat him, Hillarys gonna flip texas and arizona!
Bad Dems on Nov 9th: Well you see, it was impossible for any democrat to win, Trump was just too powerful, America is just too racist and sexist and Russians and the FBI, it's amazing Clinton did so well and almost won.

I just don't see the way the Democrat Party is constructed right now as a winning platform.
Here's what the Democrats are going to have to do to win again.
1. Become the party of personal responsibility. Start coming up with plans to put people working hard and paying their taxes first, instead of being the party of people on the dole.
2. Put tax relief front and center. It's true that people are struggling out there and this is what Trump hit on to win the election. Why not give the working people some tax relief and some room to breathe?
3. Move back to the center again. The 2016 Democrat Party platform was the most progressive in its history. See where that got you? Move back from the fringe left and to the center where Bill Clinton played from so masterfully and you will win middle America again.
4. Entitlement reform. Social security and medicare spending is set to explode in the next five to ten years. We need a quick phase out or we're going to be drowning in debt. Which leads to my last point.
5. Balance the budget. We're in serious debt as a country. Everyone, rich and poor, are going to have to tighten their belts in the coming years. Cuts to spending are going to have to take place. Offer common sense solutions and get rid of wasteful government spending like the bloated NASA budgets. When you're running a household, you have to pay the bills to keep the lights on and put food on the table, and in tough times, you can;t run up the big government credit card for a trip to space camp.
Do all these things and I think four years from now you could see a new invigorated Democrat party that's winning again. Keep going down the road of the last 8 years and well... get used to an R in the whitehouse.

being forgiving about signs of centrism because the candidate was charismatic and said progressive things and associated with progressives is what gave us four years of Obama.
being forgiving about blatantly centrist behavior and open betrayal of progressive principles because "they're just doing it to get elected" is what gave us four more years of Obama.
focusing too much on the top positions while ignoring lower-level races, not to mention outright applauding as the top-level candidates undermine the lower-level races for their own benefit, is what gave us GOP supremacy in local, state, and national government
the only thing an Ellison win will prove is that the establishment doesn't need to make real policy or messaging concessions because progressives are gullible enough to be won over by meaningless token moves and stupid enough to not realize where the real power lies

I know this is a very fringe left group in the democrat thread and that's fine, but America is at its core a center right nation. If you don't want to see a Republican in the whitehouse, you're going to have to play to that middle and that involves compromise and common sense solutions that people can understand. Don't like doing that? Fine, but get used to being in the minority in government for a while...

You're right, we should be focusing more on things like which candidates will allow lobbyists to buy access.
quote:
In a separate interview with the publication, Labor Secretary Tom Perez, seen as the other leading contender for DNC chair, said that “we have to have everything on the table” and did not rule out accepting donations from lobbyists.
And before you say "well that's not a no", it's the easiest loving "yes" answer he could have given, and he didn't give it.
It's past time we made nice with people. We need to pick a fight, and Ellison's the perfect firebrand. Conversely, I don't even think I've ever heard Perez speak on TV.

This is also what made Bill Clinton's presidency such a success. He knew the democrats had to be the party of the center, the party of the average working American.
Balanced budgets, welfare reform, getting people off the dole and working again, and compromises across the aisle with the other party.
And the result?
Peace, prosperity and record economic growth.
Now why can;t we get back to that?
