People seem to confuse density and weight of woods with whether it's a "hardwood" or "softwood". The classification has to do with how the seeds are formed. Softwood = conifers (gymnosperm) Hardword = flowering tree (angiosperm) Balsa is a hardwood, but I'm not building a dresser out of it.
