When I think about that attitude, I recall my barber who often featured fund-raising raffles to pay a for leukemia-ridden local child's treatment. He voted for Trump, after several years of posting "Obama is a socialist Kenyan Muslim" on Facebook. The end. No moral.

Badger of Basra posted:like having people sit at tables and discuss their thoughts with facilitators is something you do when you're trying to feel people out to build an apartment building in their neighborhood the Irish constitution can only amended by referendum so the principle that the general public are the final arbitrators of its contents is pretty well entrenched. The public consultation is happening cause the major parties are too terrified to propose legislation for fear of alienating a voting bloc and there are too many legal variables for them to put a simple yes no question up for a public vote, reform has become a political wedge issue between FG and its junior parties in government so this Is an easy way to absolve the government from making toxic decisions. It took 20 odd years for a government to implement legislation after the supreme court found that the constitution allowed abortion when the life of the mother is at risk, the dread paralysing fear of scaring off voters by drifting from "the centre" on controversial issues is pretty well entrenched

I sympathize with their issues, but I don't see why they need to be so forthright about them. There are appropriate venues for these discussions, and it's important that this all happens in a way that middle-class white people like me are never forced to confront uncomfortable realities.

zizek can be pretty interesting, but you have to be able to see where he's coming from for it to make any sense. if you read any of the headlines he makes, it'll just come across as pure nonsense. but that's his own fault, really, because he's p big into playing the agent provocateur
