The mechanic at my old armored car branch gave me a gun port from a decommissioned truck on my last day. Need to put it in a door or make a shield for fun.

That is a nice looking wheelgun. I have a Rossi .357mag 4", and it hasn't given me any trouble aside from the rear sight flying off, but that's been over-fixed with a drill/tap larger screw and stupid strong adhesive. Shoots fine and straight otherwise, so it wasn't a terrible choice for $300 a few years ago. If I ever stumble into a pile of money, I might upgrade from that. I'm not a big modifier of guns. The reason I'd go with a S&W AR is because it's pretty much what I want anyhow. I don't care about fancy rear end foregrips or stocks, as long as the trigger pull is reasonable and I can slap a small optic on it when I want, it's fine by me. I'd probably get one of those detachable carry handle rear sights because the bottom end S&W doesn't come with one. I suppose I should have said something like, compared to other entry level ARs around the $600 price point, like dpms, windham, etc, how does the S&W stack up?

There's been an AR15 megathread in TFR for the past few years. There's probably some good info in there.

Some, yeah. You just gotta dig for it sometimes. I haven't fired a S&W AR, but they have a street rep for being a decent starter gun. If I wanted a basic starter gun I'd probably spring an extra couple hundred for a Colt 6920 or something like that, but I am also very much an overboard gear queer so take that for what it's worth

# ? Jan 8, 2017 19:20 |

That's pretty much all I'm looking for is a good entry level gun with a reputable company stamped on it. I don't shoot enough to justify spending more than that, someday maybe. Though I don't keep my ear to the ground on the matter and maybe the windhams or dpms's are better somehow. I kinda figure they're all about the same. Not knocking the gear queer line out there, it just doesn't appeal to me to strap lasers and lights or scopes that outrange the rifle itself or whatever else in fancy camo paint to something that doesn't need it. I might find myself fiddling with a trigger kit, but nothing flashy or excessive (to me).

I'd stay away from anything under the Cerberus umbrella, that mainly being Remington and Bushmaster. They cut QC a bunch. DPMS is terrible as well. My first contracting company issued those, and we had several new guns blow bolt lugs within the first few hundred rounds. Not sure regarding Windham. You probably won't go wrong with a S&W. (Again I haven't ever fired one, so take that FWIW.)

I've started getting strict about water intake and I drink no less than 80oz/day. One thing I have noticed is that keeping my house at 68 degrees seems a lot colder now than it did before I started drinking enough water.

Yo I'm going on a cruise to Mexico in May. My second cruise. Some lessons I learned from the first (and only) cruise I took in 2011: 1) don't take all my money with me 2) don't drink as much 3) avoid the casino. My question is, can you spend cash on a cruise and/or the ports in Mexico? If not, can I get a reloadable visa and just put like $500 on it?

I figured Cerberus backed companies weren't worth a gently caress since they have a history of being absolute poo poo at owning/running any company they take over. I'm waiting for my brother's Remington 1911 to blow up on him someday, if he can ever afford to shoot it again. It's not an immediate purchase on my list, but I'll likely buy one by year's end. Plenty of time to dig around. Even then, Colorado's 10 round limited magazines law has me also considering a bolt action. So I might wind up putting off an AR purchase until I'm absolutely nuts and sleeping in a mudhut west of the sangre de cristos. I'm just glad to know S&W hasn't gone to poo poo like some of their peers.

15 round here in CO, not 10. That said, it's unenforced by most of the sheriffs in the state. The local gun store here in town openly sells >15rd mags as "rebuild kits" and has ever since the ban hit.

Last cruise I went on was a drunken spending spree. People were amazed that I could spend as much as I did on a cruise. So I want to take a set amount of money with me. I guess Carnival as their own cards you can load money on? If so I'll probably do that and leave everything else at home. It's a four day cruise and I don't drink much anymore, so I'm figuring $500 should be enough, but I don't have much experience cruising responsibly to know.

oh funny cruise story time. my sister in law went on one awhile back where she met some guy working on the boat and of course she fell in love with him and later flew to Croatia for like 2 weeks to see him and his family. dude broke off all contact once she told him she wasnt ready for marriage yet and she was completely miffed as to why. if you're keeping score at home this is the same sister in law that is thinking about adopting a meth baby because the ticking of her biological clock is getting really loud.

Well, sister in law isn't blood family, so don't feel too bad about it. My exwife's family was full of people that made my family's behavior seem tame. Lots of DUIs, lots of getting caught spotlighting for deer, hunting without permits, hunting from the window of the house, the occasional bout of petty theft, and a few sex criminals (one a kid diddler). Worst my family had compared was one meth junkie and a dumbass that falls for every mlm scam in the book, but being a sucker is no crime. So yeah, it could always be worse.

The cruise I went on in 2011 was the most relaxing experience of my life. For $300 I have someone else do everything for me and I get to go somewhere exotic? Worth it imo. Plus I never really take vacations, so this is six years in the making. This is my deck/back yard area. There are schools in the region that are closed tomorrow lol

Been on 2 cruises. One to Alaska on Princess. It owned. Being on on the top deck watching a movie while drinking a beer and surrounded by ancient loving glaciers was cool as poo poo. Service was top notch. My gf put in a comment card asking if they could add more asian food for future trips. Hours later the head chef had us a reserved table in one of the dining areas for the rest of the trip and cooked her some awesome drat food. One to Bahamas on Carnival. It was kinda bad. They had us board before the rooms were ready so everyone was sitting around in hallways and lounge areas for hours carrying around their luggage. This is after already sitting around for hours outside the ship in hot and humid Florida with only like 3-4 vending machines to get anything from. Service was so-so after that. Nothing like what we had on Princess. The ports we went into all sucked dick, other than Nassau. One of the islands we went to was some loving shipping container hold over place and another was an island leased by Carnival so it only had Carnival people on it with drat little to do other than sit on the beach and drink. ded fucked around with this message at 03:21 on Jan 9, 2017 |
