Man, growing up and learning that lots of Americans didn't explicitly learn that Jesus talked in metaphors like I did in Sunday school was pretty shocking. I thought that was the literal whole idea of him, and the Bible in general.

WOW! is our cable monopoly here, and we're on like year seven of it being owned by a national company after decades of having our own lil local cable provider, complete with a locally-staffed call center

Someone cut a fiber cable somewhere, and they've been having very long outages across their subscription area (mostly the Southeast, also here). EVERYBODY around here is talking about the "Wowtage"- I live in a college town, but I also live in semirural Kansas, and there isn't DSL coverage everywhere. The only option for some folks is cable internet or a data plan, and that's even dicey as reception is so-so outside of downtown/near campus.

It's in the local zeitgeist to the degree where I thought at first flush that this cartoon was making reference to it somehow:

I grew up just taking it as read that Adam & Eve was a metaphor, it was a hell of a rude awakening to discover a significant portion of the world takes it as a literal story.

Solving all of life's problems through enhanced casting of Occam's Razor. Reward yourself with an imaginary chalice.

I mean it's kind of defeating the purpose if Humpty is still together, isn't it? What is this, the Affordable Care Act will survive any heights its detractors will go to in order to destroy it? It's batter and bruised and patchwork like the real ACA but it's fine and it works. All this cartoon does is make the elephant look guilty, like he came in on a stretcher and while the EMT's back was turned the elephant started beating the ACA with a hammer and got caught and is like "what? Me? No, I didn't do that".

I mean any way you slice it AGC I guess. Good job with the Garrison-level botched metaphor.

The intelligence agencies didn't say there were WMDs; the Bush administration picked and chose from the intelligence reports to make their case for invasion.

Well there was that time that Dick Cheney "leaked" information to the press about hidden chemical precursors and weapon materials in Iraq and then went on to quote the article as evidence that there were weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. That's about the closest it comes.
