We have the same people in the UK. "I voted for BREXIT because they said the money we send to Europe can be used to fund the NHS instead. What do you mean that was a huge, simplistic lie just to get my vote?"

I may be crazy, but I think Trump may be the best bet the US has had to get true universal healthcare. He's outside the box enough to give it a try if he wanted to at least. Executive order couldn't set something like that up though right? Since it would be a tax?

Aren't the republicans planning on repealing the ACA but keeping it intact until 2020? All the praise of repealing while kicking the consequences down the line long enough to make the Dems look even worse or whatever. Regardless, the schadenfreude is you, America.

People seem to think that Obamacare is some kind of socialized healthcare that only goes to the poor, minorities, and illegal immigrants. I think it's due to a combination of the way Fox and others presented it, and sounding like Obamaphones (which should really be called either Reaganphones or Bushphones, based on the program's history).

Next week they can repeal any part of it that requires funding, so the subsidies. It will take longer (and fewer defections) to repeal things like preexisting conditions and the mandate.

I'd love to see Trump attempt something like this, because it would expose the Republican Party's true position on the issue, which is that poor people shouldn't be given any financial assistance for health insurance. Its not politically convenient to just come out and say that, so they go on and on about how Obamacare just isn't economically viable and that we can get to 100% coverage just using free market principles. If Trump were to achieve universal healthcare by instituting an entitlement program of any kind, the shitstorm will be absolutely tremendous, plus of course the side benefit of the country actually having universal healthcare.

Executive order couldn't set something like that up though right? Since it would be a tax? Executive orders can't overstep the Constitutional boundaries of the President's position. Harry Truman tried using an executive order to seize all steel mills in the country to settle labor disputes, which was deemed unconstitutional and reversed. In practice, a 2/3 Congressional majority can easily override an executive order if they don't like it. The Republican party even filed suit against Obama in 2014 regarding the ACA, claiming that even changing key components without Congressional approval was illegal. If Trump tries to just executive order his way out of everything, the party is going to push back.

It's been over 30 years since I last touched an electric fence and don't really have any memory of the strength. Could you just grab the handlebars and haul it over and just put up with the shocks for those few seconds, or is it actually impossible for physiological reasons and/or pain?
