Didn't the manga do this joke again, and the characters used made it clear it was them having a stupid misunderstanding over a term? Momomo posted:Though the kissing thing is just too out there for me to really enjoy. That's alien in a way that doesn't really jive well. It's just a joke. People are supposed to just laugh at Goku being an idiot and Vegeta being kinda baffled at the dumb poo poo Goku says. Meanwhile Vegeta is also being bashful about the fact that he's basically admitting to being kissy kissy with Bulma, despite his tendency to pretend that he doesn't care because he's tough proud Sayian Prince Man. Goku probably canonically kissed his wife at some point, he just really doesn't get it because he's a naive airhead and doesn't have much of a comprehension for these things, except having learned at some point that Trunks, from his perspective, "kissing" the lady is kinda bold which is where his reaction and the dumb poo poo he says comes from. I liked that joke, it made me chuckle and it really isn't as big a deal as some people want to think it is. Josuke Higashikata posted:It's just flanderisation. I find it hilarious that the first bit of personality Videl has shown in Super so far is that she's kinky. Didn't expect the Saiyaman movie thing would take 2 episodes, nice. Love the new ending too. Goku's continued flanderization of being a dumb idiot will probably be a little grating, except with the next arc being a massive martial arts tournament probably means that he'll have to be serious for awhile. I myself, prefer the character developments of Vegeta becoming a cute ol' softy when it comes to his wife and kid(s), and Piccolo becoming the cool uncle everyone wants.

That's basically it. The gag is that Vegeta (and the audience) think so little about Goku they actually believe it's the kiss when really it's bird-feeding a Zensu Bean since a) just shoving it down someone's throat always works b) birdfeeding kisses are actually super dumb and gross. Toriyama was so proud of that gag when writing the outline it became a crucial, consistent point in both versions of Super, being more important to put in than how many power ups Goku Black uses.

Super is an inescapably different show because it's filling in time between the Buu saga and the epilogue, and there's a status quo they can't stray too far from. They can't have the high stakes and the big changes and cool entrances/exits of the other shows, but they can go for broke on character development and that's pretty fun too. I kinda wish they would throw a curveball and do some really crazy poo poo - kill off big chunks of the cast, blow up the galaxy/universe, etc. What's the point of having Super Dragonballs if you're not gonna use them to fix some really bad stuff?

I mean we had Goku and Vegeta ascend to an entirely new level of power, battles against gods, and the destruction of an entire universe by a rampaging mad god who also murdered Goku and his family from another timeline.. They're not exactly low-scale.

They had an arc where a god tried to consume two universes. This ended with another God destroying the first universe to stop him. Stakes can't get much higher.

Trunks entire timeline was loving vaporized. The current stakes is that pretty much all the universes in the main timeline are on the chopping block. Like, seriously, stakes don't get much higher than this.

I like Super and I liked the Zamasu arc but let's be real, popping in and out of an already-lovely timeline was way lower-tension than basically any other major pre-Super DB arc. You never really feel like the characters are stuck in the trenches. I have high hopes for the Universal Tournament but I also kinda regret that they're blowing through the fun of discovering an unexplored multiverse all at once. Hopefully the gods of destruction will blow it and not bring every interesting character from their respective universe along.

Which, that'd be really dumb if they made him do it a second time. On the concept of training - it seems some people have kind of met their limit. Mainly the humans (Krillin & Tien) and Piccolo. I don't think they can get much stronger, unless Piccolo decides to head to New Namek and start absorbing a bunch of Namekians. For Buu, 17 and 18, I have no idea if they can get stronger. Which brings me to my next point - why aren't Beerus and Whis training up all of the Z fighters in anticipation of this tournament?

There are a million things they could do to make the humans relevant again! I am super curious about what's happening on Universe 6's recently revived Earth - huge potential for Earthling power boosts there, or at least a fun throwaway episode about defeating an evil bizarro Krillin.
